Deputy Support Lead Manager – Full Time, Permanent
A specialist educational setting in Basingstoke is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Support Lead Manager to join its team. This full-time, permanent role offers a salary between £35,235 and £38,626 per annum, aligned with NJC Pay Range 7.
About the Role
The setting provides transformative education for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The Deputy Support Lead Manager will play a crucial role in delivering a trauma-informed approach and embedding Thrive practices across the provision. The site functions as a short-stay setting for up to 42 learners who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion. In addition to on-site learning, outreach support is also provided to mainstream schools for students facing barriers to inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, support, and manage the behaviour and pastoral team, ensuring consistent and effective support for students with complex needs.
Oversee the implementation of personalised behaviour interventions, de-escalation strategies, and post-incident reviews.
Take responsibility for the school’s CPOMS system : reviewing incidents, training staff, and ensuring accurate reporting.
Support curriculum development within the Alternative Provision and lead behaviour-related teaching and mentoring.
Coordinate staff deployment for behaviour support across the school day, including lesson support, transitions, and unstructured times.
Maintain strong communication with families and external agencies, contributing to student reviews, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
Deliver in-house behaviour training (as a qualified General Services tutor) and support staff development in behaviour management practices.
Promote a calm, inclusive and emotionally safe school culture, modelling high expectations, care, and consistency.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring experience supporting students with SEMH and ASC needs, and demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills. They will be proactive, compassionate, and resilient—capable of managing challenging behaviour while fostering positive, trusting relationships with both students and staff. A background in education, youth work, or social care is desirable, along with a commitment to continuous professional development.
