The Post :
We are looking for a Consultant to lead our Health Protection Enteric Pathogens team in our Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate.

- Public Health (Medicine)
- Microbiology
- Infectious Diseases

The post reports directly to the Head of Infections Services and will work closely with other PHS topic teams such as Zoonosis and Public Health Microbiology; and externally with a wide range of partners including NHS Boards, Laboratories, Food Standards Scotland and Scottish Government.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, management and expert specialist advice on issues relating to to enteric pathogen, which includes health protection investigation, risk assessment and response to enteric pathogen outbreaks. The candidate will lead evaluation of effectiveness of interventions and improve outcomes for people in communities and develop a culture that will focus on impact, reducing inequalities and solutions.
The Candidate :
We are looking for an experienced Consultant with expertise and knowledge in health protection, with an interest in enteric pathogens to strengthen our expertise in Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate. Experienced candidates from alternate, complimentary clinical pathways of clinical infectious disease or microbiology will also be welcomed. You will either be a GMC / GDC registered professional, who is also on the specialist register in an appropriate area, or on the UK Public Health Register.

Location and Working Pattern :
Location : The post can be based in either Central Quay, Glasgow or Gyle Square, Edinburgh. PHS operates a flexible, hybrid working model which can be negotiated
Please note that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow from early 2025.
Work Pattern : Monday to Friday with on call, 37 hours per week (Agenda for Change) or 40 hours per week (M&D T&C’s).
The post-holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours on-call service provision which is around a 1 in 8 week frequency pro rata.

This post is eligible for re-allocation expenses within the UK, should candidates require to move base in order to take up post. It should be noted that NHS Scotland’s agenda for change rates are favourable in comparison to other UK nations.
During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
Salary :
AfC salary Band 8d - £94,345 - £98,384
M&D Consultant Salary - £96,963 - £128,841
