We also recruit for Social Care and Public Sector roles.We are currently recruiting for an experienced Personal Advisor to work for our client based in Redbridge and surrounding areas.Duties & Responsibilites of a Personal Advisor :
- To provide a quality needs-led service for young people preparing to leave care and to provide their support post-care.
- To operate in a mobile flexible service which requires staff to carry out duties in normal working hours and evening and cover working by arrangement.
- To provide the leaving care personal advisor role for all eligible, relevant and former relevant young people as required by the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and volume 3 of the Children Act 2010 including the production and review of the pathway plan and regular 2 monthly visits to care leavers.
- To help young people contribute to the assessment of their needs prior to their transfer to the Leaving Care Team as prescribed by the Children (Leaving Care) act 2000 and to engage in reviews and discussion of the pathway plan for 16 / 17-year-olds with CLAFH colleagues.
- To work within the Redbridge Leaving Care policies and procedures.
- To maintain appropriate statutory and administrative records, including the use of IT systems.
- To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.
- To assist young people and their social workers when they reach 16 in their preparation for leaving care by providing advice and a range of group work sessions to young people. The focus to be on developing their independent living skills, careers work or educational opportunities and identifying accommodation options.
- To provide support to young people once they have reached 18 by providing a range of individual and group work sessions designed to improve their life skills, relieve social isolation and enhance peer group support.
- To maintain knowledge of accommodation providers and work with young people to ensure that contact and security of licence or tenancy for accommodation is a priority. To complete an application form and ensure a smooth transition to permanent council accommodation.
- To develop and maintain positive links with agencies such as Connexions, careers, training agencies, colleges, local employers and the community to promote young people’s access to employment, training, education and leisure activities.
- To involve young people in the planning, delivery and evaluation for services and to encourage young people’s involvement in the Children in Care council and consultation systems in the borough.
- To assess young people’s financial needs and to organise payment, claiming benefit or grants from education or charitable funds and, where necessary, support young people to spend their leaving care grants.Working Hours : 35 per week, Monday - FridayRequirements :
- Enhanced DBS on the update service
- A knowledge and demonstrable understanding of the Leaving Care Act 2000.
- Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 Volume 3, “Transitions to Adulthood”.
- A working knowledge of child development and the impact of early childhood experiences on young people.
- An ability to work flexibly and outside of normal office hours.
