Science and Maths Teacher | London SE9 | Monday to Friday, between 8.45am and 4pm | 33 hours per week pro rata | £26,000 to £46,000 pro rata pa based on experience and qualifications | Term-time only, immediate startOur client is an independent school specialising in providing a nurturing, alternative education for young people aged 11-19 who are disengaged from mainstream education, or those with additional needs such as autism, anxiety and ADHD. They are a small school with only 60 students and a friendly, family-based environment that supports vulnerable young people to achieve outstanding outcomes when they were expected to achieve none.Working in groups of up to 10 young people, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of our innovative Key Stage 3 and GCSE Combined Science programmes of study, whilst also supporting the Head of Maths with some maths delivery. You will help to ensure that students benefit from their learning and that steady and sustainable improvements are made in overall levels of retention and achievement.You will be a strong communicator with confidence and authority yet able to win the respect of London's urban youth. You do not have to be a qualified teacher and the employer will offer teacher training if required but you must have experience in leading teaching for groups of young people from disaffected communities or having special needs. You should be able to lesson plan and manage a class, and be full of creative ways to engage, motivate and inspire young people. Ideally, you will have taught Science up to GCSE to young people. You must be willing to undertake a DBS / police check.Are you the right person for the job?Possession of a teaching qualification (Cert Ed) or equivalent or a firm commitment to obtaining oneA Level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalentHave knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' workExperience in delivering student centred curriculum to students at various levels of learningExperience in supporting students with behavioural difficulties, ESOL or additional learning needsThe ability to devise exciting and stimulating projects to support student learningThe ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their potentialExcellent communication skills and interpersonal skillsProven organisational and administrative skills and an ability to work to deadlinesThe ability to think creatively and constructivelyA caring and compassionate persona and team playerKnowledge and / or competencies of health and safety and safeguarding as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and othersAvailable now or as soon as possibleWhat will your role look like?To teach students on Key Stage 3 and GCSE Science or Maths courses to include scheduled lectures, demonstrations, remote teaching, tutorials, supervised on / off site study and assessmentTo support existing staff in the development of the curriculum and new projectsUndertake the necessary associated organisation, administration and other responsibilities, including arranging timetables, course publicity, organising the interviewing of prospective students, arranging course review and evaluation and classroom observation and / or studio / workshop managementTo contribute fully as a team member to team meetings, staff development, preparation and educational support activities, assessment, classroom observation, moderation, planning and administrationTo maintain high levels of student retention, and achievement and to support student progressionAssist in further developing educational and community outreach activitiesTo foster our enrichment ethos and support our students across all coursesWhat can you expect in return?Paid monthly into bank / building society account on or around the 25th of the monthStaff will be auto-enrolled into our Workplace Pension scheme if eligible28 days pro rata per year to be taken outside term timeThis role is available for an immediate start or as soon as possibleWhat's next?
