Job description

Location : Cromer

Salary : £37,336 – £41,418 per annum

Contract : Permanent – Part Time

About The Role

North Norfolk is a fantastic place to live, work and visit – covering over 360 sq. miles of coastal and rural environment, with a population of over 100,000 people living in 120 distinct communities, our District is one of England’s top holiday destinations and a place where people positively choose to live.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Senior Landscape Officer to join our multi-disciplinary Conservation, Design and Landscape team, which is dedicated to protecting North Norfolk’s distinctive natural and built environments. The District is proud to include the internationally celebrated North Norfolk Coast, stretching from Holkham in the west to Horsey in the east, much of which is recognised for its nature conservation importance. A large proportion of the District lies within the nationally designated landscape of the Norfolk Coast National Landscape and the North Norfolk Heritage Coast, while the eastern part of the District forms part of the Broads National Park. The District also hosts a variety of internationally and nationally designated sites and nature reserves, home to many rare and protected species and habitats.

This role is being offered on a part time basis of 15 hours per week with the potential to increase up to a maximum of 22 hours upon negotiation and will form part of a job share.

About You

The successful candidate will have extensive understanding of the planning system, wildlife legislation and ecological assessments, and be competent in the assessment of the broad range of landscape and ecological issues pertaining to planning. You will be responsible for providing timely expert ecological, arboriculture and landscape advice to the Council and its stakeholders. A talented communicator, you will be able to assess surveys, reports and issues relating to individual planning applications and effectively present complex information to different audiences using a range of mediums, including the preparation and presentation of detailed reports.

You will play a key role in contributing to the North Norfolk Local Plan in relation to arboriculture, landscape, biodiversity and ecology. Using your specialist knowledge, you will prepare supplementary guidance, policy statements and development briefs as required and represent the Council at Committees and on external bodies and partnerships.

If you possess the skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil this role and wish to be part of a dedicated and ambitious team, with a varied and challenging workload – we would like to hear from you.
