Mash Domestic Abuse Practitioner

Mash Domestic Abuse Practitioner

Bury CouncilBury, GB
Job description

Early Help MASH Domestic Abuse Practitioner.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Bury Council’s Family Help Service and help with our ‘Let’s Do it for Children’ vision.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and dedicated domestic abuse practitioner to work within our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub initially for a 1-year fixed term position.

MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub) acts as a single front door for all children’s safeguarding concerns in addition to requests and referrals for support via our targeted Family Help services in Bury Council. The MASH is made up of professionals from the police, education, health, and other services and provides a multi-agency approach when dealing with children’s safeguarding. This ensures that information across all our partner agencies is shared and acted upon quickly, with referrals reaching the right social care, early help or universal services when needed.

About You

As the specialist domestic abuse practitioner for MASH you will work as part of the multi-agency team to strengthen our response and promote better outcomes for children and families experiencing domestic abuse. You will also work alongside the Family Help Domestic Abuse practitioners to ensure a joined-up approach and promote early identification and responses to families. You would ensure that the right support is being offered to the family when referred into MASH following a domestic abuse incident or referral due to concerns / disclosures of domestic abuse. This includes medium risk cases, and repeated low-risk incidents.

You will be responsible for co-ordinating support across statutory and voluntary services for children, victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse at referral stage ensuring that families are receiving the right level of support when they need it by the most appropriate service.

As the MASH domestic abuse practitioner, you will act as voice for children & young people at the various meetings and forums and contribute to assist agencies in developing a more robust approach when dealing with domestic abuse issues. You will also represent children’s social care at various multi-agency meetings including daily Domestic Abuse Partnership Meetings, MARAC (multi-agency risk assessment conference) and the Perpetrator Panel (PAST).

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week, however, this will be flexible dependent on service requirements, and you may be required to work on a rota basis.

You will need to hold a professional and / or academic NVQ / Diploma Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a related field, i.e., Health & Social Care, Social Work / Education / Teaching, Youth Work etc. It would also be desirable if you have completed independent domestic violence advisor (IDVA) and / or young people violence advisor (YPVA).

We strive to provide a supportive and dynamic work environment for our employees with a strong focus on support, training and development and health and wellbeing.

If you feel you can use your experience to make a real difference, we would love to hear from you!

Employee Benefits include :

  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • A range of attractive work / life balance policies.
  • 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 days after 5 years), plus an additional day of leave over the Christmas period and the option to buy an additional 10 days on top of that.
  • Employee discount scheme which provides discounts with local business within the borough as well as a
  • Cycle to work scheme and car lease scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme, to support you through difficult times, with things like free counselling, financial or legal advice.

We have improved our interview process too - you’ll get a quick response to your application, and we have regular interview days.
