Job description

Job summary

You will be joining an organisation that is in the midst of its most ambitious programme of change yet. You will join a small team of highly skilled Database Administrators based at NHS Blood & Transplant ICTs Database Centre of Excellence in Bristol.

Reporting to the Lead Data Engineer, you will be supporting databases that form part of a critical organ allocation system as well as assisting our development teams as they take NHS Blood & Transplants systems into the future...

Within our Scaled Agile model you'll help to ensure that best practice is adopted in the design and delivery of all aspects of our database systems.NHSBT has a very successful track record in benefits delivery. You will be joining an organisation that is used to working within a controlled methodology but will also have the opportunity to shape the emerging agenda and influence the shape of things to come.

This is a hybrid role, you may be based at any NHS Blood & Transplant main centres, to be agreed at interview.

Main duties of the job

In this role your responsibilities will include : -

  • Developing the design policies and for ensuring that those policies are followed when the databases are developed Implementing of all aspects of the design of the Authoritys major Oracle databases, including logical, physical and security models.
  • Working with other Solutions Delivery colleagues to help customers to articulate their requirements for business systems, including explaining to customers and others the complexity of database design and performance
  • Assisting in the staff development of the Database Technologies team through regular mentoring of colleagues.
  • Working with the Lead Data Engineer to ensure that this best practice is implemented across their team.
  • Deputising for the Lead Data Engineer in their absence, standing in for them as required in operational matters and at meetings.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related subject
  • Qualifications or courses attended in Oracle Database Administration
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant experience in an Oracle DBA environment, including database design, physical layout, security, performance monitoring and improvement
  • Experience of database query / procedural language skills Oracle PL / SQL and SQL Experience of producing user and technical documentation
