This is an opportunity to join the senior leadership team of a growing environmental consultancy that blends technical expertise with a fresh, collaborative culture.
You’ll lead a talented group of ecologists, analysts, and specialists in delivering innovative, high-impact solutions across the UK.
As Director of Ecology, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction of the ecology team. You’ll be responsible for overseeing team performance, utilisation, and ensuring their contribution directly supports the wider business plan.
This is more than a leadership role, it's a chance to shape the future of the business.
The role is permanent, with flexible working arrangements available (remote, hybrid, full-time or part-time).
Our client has office locations in Greater Manchester, London, and Derbyshire, and projects across the UK, so they can be flexible on location.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the Ecology team, ensuring high standards of delivery, wellbeing, and professional development
- Driving the team’s contribution to the overall business strategy and targets
- Managing team utilisation and resource planning across multiple projects
- Building and strengthening client relationships at a senior level
- Overseeing complex ecological assessments and ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs
- Representing the consultancy at industry events, conferences, and strategic partnerships
- Supporting business development through proposals, tenders, and high-level client engagement
- Mentoring team leads and fostering a collaborative, inclusive team culture
Requirements
We're looking for a confident leader with a deep understanding of ecological consultancy and a passion for developing people and delivering value.
You’ll ideally bring :

What We're Looking For We want someone who’s not only technically skilled but also brings initiative, collaboration, and care to their work. You’ll likely tick many of these boxes : A strong ecological consultancy background (typically 4+ years) Confident producing PEA, EcIA, and BNG reports Skilled in managing and coordinating ecological surveys Holds one or more protected species licences and / or has a specialist ecological interest Previous experience mentoring junior staff or leading survey teams Comfortable producing quotes, tenders, and client-facing documentation Holds a degree in a relevant subject Member (Associate or Full) of CIEEM Competent in GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS FISC Level 3 botanical ID (or above) Full UK driving licence
