AA Summary

Assuming The AA is just about roadside help? There’s more to us than meets the eye.

The AA is one of the UK’s most well-known and trusted brands. We provide a range of services to millions of customers, from roadside assistance to insurance and driving lessons. Our mission is to help keep Britain moving, and we’re looking for dedicated individuals to join our team. Are you ready to join?

LI-THEAA #LI-Hybrid

This is the job

The role centres around managing in-life vehicle-related services for AA Driving Schools, which operates the largest driving school fleet in the UK. As part of this role, you’ll have full responsibility, accountability, and efficiency for delivering fleet-related services to customers.

Your responsibilities include overseeing in-life delivery and supply chain management to meet customer demand. This involves ensuring that our entire fleet remains operational and on the road through effective vehicle off-road management. You’ll manage this across the approximately 4,000 vehicles operated by the driving school.

You’ll be responsible for managing the in-life fleet costs and ensuring our fleet remains operational and compliant. Additionally, you’ll oversee the supply chains that support operational delivery, implementing effective supplier management principles.

Your role includes ensuring that in-life fleet routines for services delivered to the driving school are compliant, fit for purpose, and meet the demands of end-users. Providing a first-class service is essential to support franchisees, driving instructors, and the management team.

As a member of the Fleet team supporting the Driving School Senior Management Team (SMT), you play a crucial role in achieving the mission of becoming the go-to destination for everything our customers need to start driving with confidence.

What will I be doing?

  • Delivery from Fleet Supply Chain : Responsible for in-life services delivery through the fleet supply chain and ensures compliance, fitness for purpose, and meeting end-user demands for in-life vehicles.
  • Fleet Responsibility : Oversees the entire fleet (currently approximately 4,000 vehicles) from an in-life perspective.
  • Maximising Opportunities : Leverages in-year improvements and tenders to maximise discounts using the Driving Schools’ volume.
  • Team Management : Lead a small team, ensuring flexibility to support asset and remarketing teams as needed.
  • Legal Compliance : Ensures fleet processes comply with legal requirements for safe and legal fleet operation (e.g., RFL, Insurance Database).
  • Budget and Forecast Development : Works closely with the Finance Business Partner to develop the annual in-life fleet budget and forecasts.
  • Supply Chain Continuity : Ensures the in-life related supply chain has full Business Continuity Planning (BCP) to protect product continuity.
  • Franchisee Commitments : Delivers on regulatory commitments for franchisees.
  • Fleet Policy Management : Supports the management of fleet policies and literature provided to driving instructors and franchisees.
  • SMR Program Development : Collaborates with group resources to build a world-class Service, Maintenance, and Repair (SMR) program and utilises integrated telematics for accurate fault reporting and establishes a robust “loss of use” process.
  • Technology Ownership : Owns technology integration within driving school vehicles (e.g., embedded or retro-fit systems).
  • Process Refinement : Refines administrative processes related to mileage charges, parking fines, vehicle management, and SMR.
  • Franchisee Management : Ensures every franchisee is managed in life from a fleet perspective in line with their franchise agreement.

What do I need?

  • Supplier Management and Partnerships : Demonstrates a proven, robust approach to supplier management and partnerships, resulting in optimal customer outcomes and value delivery.
  • Excel Proficiency : Proven capability in using Microsoft Excel extensively to a high standard.
  • Accurate Data Handling : Demonstrated track record of working accurately with data.
  • Vehicle Leasing Expertise : Knowledge of the vehicle leasing business.
  • Financial Appreciation : Excellent level of financial appreciation.
  • Supplier and Contract Management : Experience managing suppliers or clients and contracts.
  • Change Management and Relationship Building : Experience in landing change, building relationships, and driving profitability.
  • Driver Duty of Care Awareness : Knowledge of Driver Duty of Care responsibility.
  • Fleet Industry Experience : Experience in the Fleet Industry in similar or parallel roles.
  • Additional Information

We’re always looking to recognise and reward our employees for the work they do. As a valued member of The AA team, you’ll have access to a range of benefits including :

  • Free AA breakdown membership from day 1, 50% discount for family and friends in the first year plus discounts on other AA products
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays + the option to buy additional annual leave
  • Dedicated Employee Assistance Programme and a 24 / 7 remote GP service for you and your family
  • Pension scheme available up to 7% contribution
  • Access to the EV discount scheme
  • Plus, so much more!

We’re an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from everyone. The AA values diversity and the difference this brings to our culture and our customers. We actively seek people from diverse backgrounds to join us and become part of an inclusive company where you can be yourself, be empowered to be your best and feel like you truly belong. We have five communities to bring together people with shared characteristics and backgrounds and drive positive change.

As part of the onboarding process, we complete several pre-employment checks including work reference, credit, and criminal record checks.

We may close the vacancy sooner than the advertised date if we get a high volume of applications, please apply now if you are interested.
