Excel Recruitment are recruiting Invasive Species Officers on behalf of The National Biodiversity Data Centre. The NBDC are currently seeking two motivated and dedicated individuals to join their team as Invasive Species Officers. Working within their Invasive Species Unit, the NBDC are seeking to hire an Invasive Species Pathways Action Plan Officer and an Invasive Species Biosecurity and Citizen Science Officer to join the National Biodiversity Data Centre team. The successful candidates will play key roles in various projects aimed at addressing invasive alien species issues in Ireland / Northern Ireland The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 11th April 2025 Main Duties and Responsibilities Role 1 : Invasive Species Pathways Action Plan Officer This role will have responsibility for the Shared Island Invasive Species Pathways work programme. Duties will include but are not limited to : Collating and analysing data underpinning priority pathways across the island of Ireland (e.g., trade related data and statistics, GIS based datasets on pathways and / or using historical data to analyse first points of introduction and subsequent spread). Building strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, facilitating communication, and driving engagement through meetings, events, and workshops to support pathway management. Reviewing and updating existing Pathway Action Plans, as well as developing new Shared Island Pathway Action Plans. Convening and coordinating Pathway Action Plan groups to support effective implementation. Producing information packs and guidance as required for pathway management. Developing training initiatives to improve stakeholder understanding and implementation of pathway management. Collaborating with research partners to identify priority research needs for effective pathway management. Role 2 : Invasive Species Biosecurity and Citizen Science Officer This role will have responsibility for the for delivery of the Shared Island Biosecurity and Invasive Species work programme. Duties will include but are not limited to : Working as part of the team to further develop and deliver biosecurity awareness campaigns (e.g. Check Clean Dry; Be Plant Wise; and Be Pet Wise) across our Shared Island. Developing an annual biosecurity engagement activity plan with an associated "roadshow" to provide information and material relating to the three existing biosecurity campaigns. Leading on surveys / questionnaires to better understand stakeholder perspectives on biosecurity (e.g. surveying anglers and other recreational water users). Support Shared Island invasive species citizen science initiatives by developing training material and workshops on identification, biosecurity and good practice management. Developing strategic partnerships with organisations to help develop effective biosecurity and citizen science projects across our Shared Island, and more locally in the border regions. Producing information packs and guidance as required for stakeholder led initiatives and invasives species management projects. For example, guides for organising volunteer events or how to incorporate biosecurity into event planning and delivery. Convening stakeholders through meetings, workshops and / or forum to facilitate action or problem solving on a particular biosecurity or invasive species issue.
