About the role
The role of HR & Payroll Officer is a permanent post supporting the HR Team with all employment related matters and ensuring the Charity and its people are operating within the confines of all relevant legislation and best practice. You will :
- Support in providing an effective and efficient HR Service which also includes recruitment, compliance and fleet management
- Be responsible for payroll, pension and benefits, ensuring the timely and accurate administration of payroll for monthly pay runs
- Work closely with colleagues to maintain a smooth payroll process, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and continuously improving procedures for greater efficiency.
- Need to be highly motivated, efficient and organised and enjoy working as part of a team, whilst also being comfortable working independently. Accuracy and attention to detail is vital in this post
HR Responsibilities :
Process new starters and leavers in accordance with relevant legislation and Charity policyCreate new starter packs including offer letters, contract of employment, etcConduct pre-employment and new starter checks including references, DBS and right to work checksMaintain accurate employee records, databases and systemsSupport the induction and onboarding process for new employeesLog, monitor and assist with disciplinary, grievance, performance and absence management processesCollect data and compile reports on various HR metricsManage enquiries by email, phone and face to faceAssist with recruitment across all departments, placing adverts, tracking applicants, arranging interviews, etcFleet management for company carsPayroll Responsibilities :
Manage end-to-end monthly payroll for approximately 100 employeesCreate and maintain monthly payroll file and documentation using SageReconcile inputs from HR and time & attendance systemsConduct pre and post-payroll checksProcess statutory payments, starters, leavers and all other employee data changesEnsure compliance with HMRC, including year-end reporting (P11d, payrolled benefits and RTI submissions)Manage and administer auto-enrolment pensions, HMRC / RTI information and paymentsMaintain accurate records, both paper and electronic, ensuring data integrityInvestigate payroll discrepancies and queries professionally, quickly and efficientlyAbout the rewards

Essential Criteria :
As a minimum, GCSE’s in English and Maths (or equivalent)Entry level payroll qualification (or working towards)Experience working with SAGE 50 payroll or similar payroll softwareMinimum of 2 years’ experience working in a HR / payroll settingKnowledge of relevant legislation affecting HR and payroll practicesAble to build strong relationships with all colleagues and stakeholdersAbility to multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure to tight deadlinesYou must also have excellent :
