Who is GBM Group I hear you ask? Well,you probably already know who we are, without realising it!

We own and operate a network of highly-engaged youth communities on social media.

We have numerous pages including Great British Memes, That Girl Page, That Student Page and MORE, which across all social channels reach over 500 million every month. The vast majority of our social following also comes from within our home market - the UK.

At GBM, we take pride in what we do and make sure the client's needs are met while considering the needs and wants of our nurtured communities / audiences. All campaigns have a lot of care and attention to detail with nothing going live unless the GBM team are 100% happy with everything.

So to sum it up for ya, we are a young start-up who are chronically online making organic and paid memes and video content for the masses…

Job Description

The role :

We’re looking for a creatively driven Strategy Lead , who’s passionate about all things social media, content, culture, and knows how to turn that passion into real business change.

In this role, the successful candidate will help to shape the commercial direction of GBM Group, working across our growing network of social brands. They’ll translate creative ideas and briefs into data-informed strategies, and pitch to some of the world’s top brands and agencies. They will also help the founder and senior team evolve our positioning in a rapidly changing and exciting social media landscape.

Our ideal candidate will have a background in social media, pitching, brand partnership sales, winning new business and creative strategy. They will have at least 5+ years of mid-senior experience within a creative team, and proven brand / agency experience, working with household names.

They’ll also have a proven track record of winning and retaining significant new business, a strong network of senior agency and client contacts, and a passion for delivering standout work.

They’ll work closely with the founder and senior team, to drive revenue, build standout proposals, and build new business.

This is a hands-on, strategic role, where the successful candidate will balance creativity with commercial planning. As a small team, there are endless opportunities for growth, and there is the chance to take ownership of the strategy arm of the business and play a key role in the shaping of GBM’s future - possibly even building out a team.

Key responsibilities include :

Business Development

  • Owning and developing commercial & pitching strategies that drive tangible results for GBM Group’s network of pages and new business.
  • Drive revenue growth across GBM, ensuring forecasted revenue is exceeded.
  • Develop integrated, full-funnel proposals that align with client and agency briefs, leveraging GBM’s expertise and network.
  • Build and nurture senior-level client relationships, securing long-term partnerships.
  • Translating our business goals into creative, data-driven strategies to define a clear commercial strategy for GBM, driving briefs and revenue for some of the world’s top brands and agencies.
  • Continuing to grow and explore GBM’s proposition to market in the UK, working with clients, key agency stakeholders across the major and independent agency groups to grow awareness and secure revenue and hit targets & objectives set by the founder.
  • Developing and maintaining a pipeline of commercial opportunities across our 5 key sales propositions : Distribution, Partnerships, Amplification, Management and Content Creation.
  • Proactively identify and seek out client and industry work to optimise revenue and opportunities. Working with the full spectrum of agency teams (planning, performance, partnerships etc) to ensure seamless planning and execution of campaigns.
  • Working with the founder and senior team to create strategies and proposals for new business and RTB's on a reactive basis.
  • Secure agency and client presentation sessions and other industry opportunities to communicate GBM’s proposition.
  • Having a finger on the pulse of culture and social media, and be aware of current / emerging trends, behaviours and audience patterns, ensuring we are keeping our audiences engaged.
  • Help GBM Group grow the strategy arm of the company, bringing in new business and ensuring the business has a strong outlook for future growth.
  • Looking to develop the strategy side of the business by taking ownership of this side whilst also being open to building out a full team in future.
  • Pitching new client programmes, including writing and delivering presentations to clients.
  • Maintain high levels of communication and transparency with the founder and heads of department, managing a self-generated pipeline and revenue forecasts.
  • Be one of GBM’s external ambassadors, engage with key partners and the wider advertising community to drive company commercial and internal growth. This includes seeking out and participating in industry events, both formal and informal.

This is not an exhaustive job description list and you will be required to undertake other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time.

What we’re looking for :

  • Strong experience working with media agencies at a senior level, ideally in a strategy or creative partnerships role, with an impressive portfolio of past brands and clients.
  • Deep knowledge of the digital and social media landscape, with a strong background in commercial strategy.
  • Proven track record of revenue growth and selling six-figure multi-platform branded content solutions.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight deadlines with ease.
  • Data-driven thinker with strong critical evaluation skills, and innovative approach to RTB’s.
  • Proactive and solution-focused mindset, with a can-do attitude and goes the extra mile to achieve objectives.
  • Communicates confidently and effectively at all levels, with strong written and verbal skills and the ability to pitch ideas, present proposals and build relationships with clients and internal team members.
  • Builds strong client relationships, anticipating client needs and servicing their requests reactively.
  • Experience partnering with media agencies at a senior level.
  • Demonstrable expertise in understanding a brief and developing the right integrated proposal as a response.
  • Strong critical evaluation skills, with the ability to extract insights from reports, identify success and improve on learnings from past content.
  • Proven senior contacts within the industry (brand and agency) and fantastic negotiation skills.
  • Passionate about great work and delivering strong business outcomes for clients
  • Personal KPIs and targets will be set by the founder.
  • Expert in UK culture and understands the nuances of British humour.
  • Shows initiative and doesn’t wait to be instructed.

  • What success looks like :

    We’re a small but nimble team, looking to expand further into the market, so we’re looking to secure new business quickly to add to our already existing partnerships.

    Success will be measured by the amount of briefs and commercial opportunities you are able to bring in as well as revenue. The founder has strong industry relationships and a lot of previous connections that you might be able to leverage to support you in the sales process, but you will be predominantly expected to bring your own and integrate them into the business quickly. We are already in a great position where we work with wonderful clients but we’re looking to expand this much further as the company grows. The ideal candidate will be someone we can build with and grow with us as a business. KPI’s and targets will be discussed with the candidate who is successful, with a clear road map for the coming quarters.
