We arerecruiting for a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Clinical Psychologist(B8a) to work in our Intensive Support Team (IST) in the Adult LearningDisabilities Community Health Team.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced clinicalpsychologist to work in our Intensive Support Team (IST) for adults withlearning disabilities in Kirklees. We are seeking someone with experience ofworking with clients with learning disabilities and complex psychological andbehavioural difficulties, within a multi-disciplinary team context.

The successful candidate will work within the IST, withclients who have complex presentations, primarily of behavioural, risk andpsychological difficulties, and are at risk of admission to hospital or at riskof placement breakdown. The IST provides intensive specialist short term careand treatment to adult clients with a learning disability and complexdifficulties.

This role will primarily involve both direct and indirectwork with clients and their carers. There may be some opportunities forteaching and training of other staff, as well as clinical supervision of anassistant psychologist and psychologists in clinical training.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable andadaptable individual who can demonstrate effective team working ability.Previous experience of working with clients with a learning disability, complexrisk and behavioural presentations is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will be a highly motivated and conscientious individual, who has the desire to work creatively with people with learning disabilities.

The ability to work independently and within a group setting is essential, working alongside the multidisciplinary team, in service users homes, day services, respite facilities, and supported living environments.

The role will involve working closely with the IST MDT clinicians to provide an intensive, wrap-around service to help improve the outcomes for the clients. You will be required to use your clinical psychology skills to support the assessment and delivery of high-quality therapeutic interventions to address the holistic needs of clients with a focus on positive behavioural support, risk management, and trauma informed care.

This will involve the assessment of clients individual needs and to lead on psychological formulations to feed into Positive Behavioural Support plans / interventions.

The core hours of the team are 09 : 00-17 : 00, Monday to Friday, although all members of the IST are expected to provide support outside these hours on occasion, according to clinical need.

Thisjob description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The postholder will be required to undertakeother duties commensurate with the grade as directed.The content of this postwill be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in linewith the service developments.

Thepost holder will provide a high quality specialist clinical psychology serviceto clients as part of the multidisciplinary team within the service.

Provide highly specialist psychologicalassessment and intervention.

Provide advice and consultation onpsychological care to non-psychologist colleagues, and other, non-professionalcarers, working autonomously within professional guidelines, and the overallframework of the team and trusts policies and procedures.

Supervise and support PsychologyAssistants, Trainees and Band 7 HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologists.

To utilise research skills for audit,policy, service development and research within the areas served by theteam / service.

To offerconsultation and supervision when required by other agencies involved in thepsychological, emotional and behavioural well-being of service users.

To providesupervision of Band 7 Clinical Psychologists, doctoral level clinicalpsychology trainees, assistant psychologists and trainees from other disciplinesas appropriate.

Person Specification

Personal Attributes

  • A Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for any applicants who are unable to drive due to a disability).
  • To transport Psychometric testing equipment.

Experience

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Frequent, protracted sustained and intense concentration.
  • Show respect and treat people with dignity.
  • Be able to give bad news sensitively.
  • Be able to sustain empathy in difficult situations.
  • Be aware of all interviewees in any situation.
  • Experience of teaching, training and / or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of groupwork.
  • Special Knowledge & Skills

  • Good Psychometric Assessment skills.
  • Experience of assisting in training of Post Graduate Clinical Psychology Trainees.
  • Exceptional communication skills in verbal, non verbal and written modes.
  • Ability to empathise and develop good therapeutic alliance.
  • Ability to Formulate Complex processes.
  • Capacity to conduct Psychometric Assessment.
  • Ability to travel around the Trust as appropriate to the role.
  • Manual Dexterity for conducting tests.
  • Working with people in Crisis.
  • Working on an in-patient Psychiatric ward.
  • Physical Attributes

  • Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post. A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years (subject to the need to act with fairness and equality of opportunity, particularly where the sickness is related to a disability and / or pregnancy).
  • Training

  • Completion of formal training to meet eligibility as clinical supervisor of Doctoral Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
  • Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
  • Significant Post qualification experience in a Setting relevant to the post.
  • HCPC Registration as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
