Protection & Control Engineer (Energy) at WSP in the UK & Ireland

Join our team as a Protection & Control Engineer working within the UK Energy business at WSP. In this role, you will contribute to delivering power transmission infrastructure that supports the UK's Net Zero goals. We offer opportunities to develop your skills over the next decade, including designing over 300 km of OHL.

Responsibilities include :

  • Designing protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
  • Developing detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP.
  • Performing technical calculations to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Ensuring designs meet industry standards, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conducting site surveys and collaborating with project teams for seamless integration of design requirements.
  • Reviewing and supporting installation and commissioning activities.
  • Staying updated with the latest protection and control technologies and practices.

Candidate requirements :

  • Minimum HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in designing protection and control schemes.
  • Knowledge of electrical networks and relevant standards.
  • Experience working with main suppliers’ products (ABB, Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
  • Familiarity with protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870.
  • Ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status and holding or working towards BP141 authorization.
