Job description

Job Title : Teacher of Key Stage 1 with some key stage 2 commitments.

Salary : £28,000.00 per annum

Hours : 8.30 am to 4.00 pm – Monday to Friday - Fulltime

Holidays : 14 weeks paid holiday per annum.

Start Date : September 2022

Overstone Park Independent School is recruiting a qualified and experienced primary school teacher to join our caring team. we are a school that puts the needs of our pupils first. The applicant must be caring, passionate, innovative, and enthusiastic about supporting children of all abilities, including those will additional needs.

To enable them to reach their full potential socially, academically, and emotionally.

Job Purpose :

To teach all subjects of the national curriculum and extra-curricula activities and carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the principal.

Duties :

Teach pupils of all abilities, including those with additional needs by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through :

  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.
  • Setting tasks that challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest.
  • Through differentiation; to set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils of all abilities.
  • Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment.
  • To be able to learn to write provision maps and work with provision maps of pupils with additional needs.
  • To be able to learn to lead annual Educational Health Care Plans reviews.
  • To be able to work with academically gifted pupils.
  • To recognize that all children are talented and to be able to find their talent through innovative teaching.
  • Providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge.
  • To make effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of programs of study.
  • Ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time.
  • To be able to maintain discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
  • Using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary.
  • use effective questioning, listen carefully to pupils, give attention to errors and misconceptions.
  • Select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, IT and other source
  • The applicant must have food IT skills.
  • To ensure that pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught.
  • To be able to accept constructive reviews to evaluate your own teaching critically to improve effectiveness.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support taking account of pupils' needs by providing structured learning opportunities that develop the areas of learning identified in national and local policies and particularly the foundations for literacy and numeracy.
  • To encourage pupils to think and talk about their learning; develop self-control and independence; concentrate and persevere and listen attentively.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies that involve planned adult intervention, first-hand experience and play and talk as a vehicle for learning.
  • Ability to develop rapport with pupils with additional needs.
  • Using pupil’s interest.
  • Using humour.
  • Using clear consistent structures and boundaries.
  • Being patient and calm with a desire to get the best out of individuals with additional needs.
  • To have the ability to deal with the physical challenges of the job (which likely will necessitate running and physical intervention at times).
  • You will be responsible for teaching a small class, some of whom with additional needs.
  • You will use resources to help each student understand and engage in lessons.
  • You must have the ability to successfully work alongside a mentor to support pupils.
  • You will plan and deliver effective lessons using the UK curriculum.
  • You will receive statutory training and online CPD training.

Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting :

  • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching.
  • Mark and monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress using the school’s procedures.
  • Assess and record pupils' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which the pupil is achieving.
  • Undertake an assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, and departmental and school procedures.
  • Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
  • You will be expected to participate in the planning and organising of all school events that occurs throughout the year to promote our pupils and our school.
  • Curriculum Development :

  • Have responsibility for primary school subjects and participate in the school's plans which identify clear targets and success criteria for its development and / or maintenance.
  • You will be expected to contribute to the whole school development plan.
  • Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified.
  • Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from a manager or the principal to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
  • This job description may be revised by the proprietors in accordance with the various changes and development of the school.
