Our client is a leading advanced engineering company pioneering lighter materials technology within the Aerospace industry.

Due to increased demand, they are now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer high-performance aerospace components and structures from concept stage, through to detailed design for manufacture.
  • Prepare, present, and report technical work to peers and customers at design reviews.
  • Create piece part drawings from 3D models to enable manufacture of tooling and components.
  • Manage configuration of all designs (control of BOM).
  • Collate data and produce reports as required.
  • Carry out technical analysis including thermal, stress (including non-linear), and buckling analysis using finite element codes and analytical techniques.
  • Develop the company’s design and stress analysis capability.

Qualifications

  • BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related degree, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Applicants are expected to be Chartered engineers or pursuing Chartered status.
  • Knowledge and Experience

  • 5+ years post-graduate experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or similar environment.
  • Experience in hand-calculations for basic mechanical design problems.
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials, tolerances, drawing standards, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Innovative design thinking, able to create robust solutions and critique own ideas.
  • High experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of DfM and DfA principles, manufacturing technologies like CNC, casting, sheet metal, molding, rapid prototyping.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts.
  • Experience in aerospace component design and analysis, finite element codes, project management, and experimental development programs.
  • Experience with composite materials, NDT, and familiarity with AS9100 or ECSS standards.
