Job Title : Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN)

Location : Newcastle

Pay rate : £84 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)

Start Date : September 2025

Contract Type : Daily Supply, Long Term

GSL Education are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Graduate Teaching Assistants (SEN) to join a range of inclusive schools in Newcastle from September 2025 . This is an ideal opportunity for aspiring educators and professionals keen to support pupils with special educational needs in a practical, rewarding environment.

Role Overview :

As a Graduate SEN TA , you will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to support pupils with additional learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and speech, language and communication needs . Your role will be crucial in helping these pupils access the curriculum, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support individual or small groups of pupils with SEN , both in and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and learning strategies.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment tailored to diverse needs.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SEN teams.
  • Encourage pupil independence and social interaction through structured support.
  • Contribute to the well-being, engagement, and academic achievement of all learners.

Job Requirements of Graduate TA (SEN) :

  • A degree in psychology, education, special educational needs, child development, or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, or care setting.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to supporting the development and well-being of students with SEN.
  • Understanding of various Special Education Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD, learning difficulties and behaviour support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
