Job description

As a Social Worker within the Children Looked After and Leaving Care Service, you will provide a range of support and interventions designed to meet the needs for children and care and care leavers in a flexible and responsive way. Guided by the principles of Restorative Practices you will work in foster homes, residential placements, semi-independent placements and communities, completing direct work with children, young people and their families. With the child you will make assessments to develop and oversee care plans, you will work with the professional network to ensure outcomes are achieved. You will provide direct and indirect specialist support work.

About Us

Sutton’s Children Looked After and Leaving Care Team is responsible for care planning for children looked after to ensure permanency and to progress children in care into independence whilst keeping them safe. A settled team with a positive culture located at The Quad which is to be used as pioneering hub around contextual safeguarding and innovative practice around work with adolescents and Sutton Civic Centre. We have a fully supportive and restorative approach to both staff and families we work with. The Team are also leading innovative projects with fantastic engagement with young people who inform the service and who work closely with local organisations and businesses.

About You

We welcome applications from individuals with a social work qualification, who have completed their AYSE and have a current professional registration with Social Work England. You should have excellent report writing and communication skills and the ability to converse with a variety of service users and stakeholders at all levels. Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people and knowledge of statutory requirements, the Children’s act, Children Leaving Care act and the Children in Social Care act. Candidates will need to be culturally sensitive, working with people from all walks of life including those who have English as a second language and unaccompanied asylum seeking children. This role also requires the need to pick up on safeguarding concerns and understanding the limits of confidentiality, knowledge of development of young people, working in a restorative and trauma involved way. A driving Licence is essential for this role.
