Job overview

Come to work in a Children's Service rated outstanding by CQC and which is Baby Friendly Accredited. We provide care to a diverse community and work closely with the Family Hubs in Derby.

Our Band 5 nurses often then apply to complete their HV training with us as the Band 5 role gives great insight into the role.

From supporting families during the antenatal period whilst delivering the healthy child programme, you will be a skilled professional with excellent communication skills who makes a real difference to improve the health outcomes for children and their families in Derby City.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the delivery of health visiting services to a defined corporate caseload within Derby City. You will also be expected to work within the 0- framework ensuring a seamless service to the family as appropriate.

You will lead on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme as defined within the service specification, identifying packages of care based on the Universal, Universal plus, Universal Partnership plus models of service delivery.

You will provide leadership and supervision to other members of the Public Health Team ensuring you delegate appropriately to other team members and work within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures.

There will be an expectation for you to work collaboratively with other agencies and partners, ensuring a seamless delivery of services.

  • Provide quality evidence based public health nursing service (health visiting) to a defined corporate caseload to support and enable families and children to make informed choices about their health care and promote health and wellbeing.
  • You will be expected to be a skilled practitioner in breast and infant feeding and will undertake regular training and have clinical assessments as required in line with Baby Friendly Accreditation.
  • Support on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme as defined within the service specification.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner complex information regarding assessment and analysis of health needs of children and their families in routine and highly emotive situations.
  • work with in the skill mix team , supervising, monitoring, mentoring and assuming specific line management duties where applicable
  • Work in ways which are sensitive and appropriate to the needs of children, young people, and their families / carers with a wide range of ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds
  • Lead by example with regards to own conduct, professionalism and clinical practice – be a good role model.
