Job summary

We have an exciting vacancy to work in a friendly and supportive Library and Knowledge Service team. The service supports the information needs of the Trust's staff and students, by facilitating access to books, e-resources, training, current awareness and more.

The role is varied; no two days are the same. We offer the flexibility to manage your own workload, unsupervised on occasion. You will also have the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity to contribute to service development. Experience within a library environment is desirable, but not essential. Training on specific library systems will be provided.

Opportunities for continuing professional development are encouraged.

Whilst this is a full-time role, we would also consider applications for part time posts.

You will be required to split your time between St Michael's Hospital, Warwick and Brooklands Hospital, Marston Green (one or two days a week).

In this role, you will :

carry out general library duties, such as clerical support, dealing with enquiries, book loans and acquisitions, article requests and basic evidence searching.

process member registrations and provide inductions to new starters

support promotional and marketing material for the library and its services.

maintain physical library spaces and stock

Main responsibilities of the post

Communication

Inductions of new library users relating to library facilities, platforms and services

Process library registrations, OpenAthens and article requests

Provide information regarding relevant legislation ( copyright, data protection)

Market and promote library services. Produce publicity materials and library guides.

Aid users in the use of E-resources.

Carry out routine literature searches for users, referring more advanced questions to the professional librarians.

Good customer care skills

Using initiative when in sole charge of the library space.

Plan own workload

Physical Skills

Light to moderate physical effort shelving stock and equipment, use of steps to reach windows and shelves.

Policy and Service Responsibilities

Implement policies and services as agreed at team level.

Contribute to the continued development of the library services. Take minutes at team meetings on a rota basis.

Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources

Open and close the library daily and regular lone working

Keep office and book maintenance supplies constant and order as needed

Responsibility for Information

Add new resources to the Library Management System

Remove outdated stock and assist in the stock check for missing items.

Retrieve overdue items and mark long overdue and / or missing stock on catalogue

Issue and return books and multimedia materials using the library management system.

Process article requests

Create and update documents, tables, spreadsheets and posters using Microsoft Office software.

Work with other members of the team to maintain Current Awareness Service.

Research and Development

Use Excel to keep statistics of completed work

Participate in gathering of feedback

Person Specification

5 GCSEs or equivalent including English Language

Experience in an administrative role

Good knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Good interpersonal and customer care skills

Self-motivated and flexible work approach

Ability to work as part of a team

Ability to move stock and equipment within the library

Ability to meet travel requirements of the post

Qualifications

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English Language

Desirable

  • NVQ Level III or equivalent Information & Library Services or equivalent library qualificatio
  • Knowledge and Skills

    Essential

  • High level of computer literacy
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications particularly Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to source information effectively.

  • Previous library or office experience
