Job summary

Areyou a nurse looking to work and train within Lymphoedema Look no further. We are looking for a compassionate and experienced individual to be part of our fantastic Lymphoedema team at South Bucks Hospice.

Lymphoedema forms one of the core services with trainingprovided if required. Note academic rigour forms part of this formal trainingprogram, with regular modular exams and practical tests to demonstrate learningand competence. Eventual appointment will depend upon successful completion oftraining and registration with the Manual Lymphatic Drainage UK (MLD UK)organisation.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a day hospice with big aspirations to grow our care services in the local community, increasing the reach of our service provision and making a real difference to the lives of those we care for.

The successful candidate will already be an experienced registered nurse and will be able to show development throughout their career.

This is a permanent part-time role at 30 hours per week, flexible working pattern Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, paying £27,456per annum (FTE £34,320). You will receive pro-ratad 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing with length of service. We also offer to those currently a member of the NHS Pension Scheme the option to remain in the scheme or alternatively the option to join an employer contributory pension scheme. Free on-site parking is also provided.

Main duties of the job

To bring clinical expertise to all aspectof lymphoedema, including supporting the team with departmental activities andoperational requirements. To deliverand maintain high standards and ethical lymphoedema therapy with patients inline with personal care plans. To act inaccordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and inline with South Bucks Hospices policies and procedures. Deputise for the Headof Lymphoedema and provide nursing support across all patient services whererequired.

We offer patient-centred care to individuals through the provision of specialist palliative, psychotherapeutic and lymphoedema care. We also support their families and carers.

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities are :

Key Result Areas

  • To provide treatment andcare to patients suffering with Lymphoedema to ensure that patient comfort and long-termhealth care is benefited in line with their individual patienttreatment needs.
  • Work with the team, using apatient-centered approach and evidenced based practice to assess, plan,implement and evaluate patient care and co-ordinate care from admission todischarge.
  • Evaluate referrals frommedical and non-medical practitioners in line with South Bucks Hospice’spolicies and procedures and carry out initial assessments for those referredfor lymphoedema
  • Taking a wider view topatient care by supporting community teams in their practise of patients withLymphoedema
  • As a nurse specialistrefer appropriately to other professionals both internally and externally
  • Maintain patient safetyand provide physical, emotional and psychological support to patients andcarers.
  • 100% compliance withprofessional, ethical patient assessments, care plans and note taking ensuringthey are clear and accurate by both self and the wider team.
  • Deliver education on themanagement of lymphoedema as agreed with the Head of Lymphoedema
  • Supporting thedepartment and all activities to ensure that it complies with the NICE and CQC guidelines
  • Manage patient caseloadsin accordance with South Bucks Hospice’s policies and procedures
  • Deputise for the Head ofLymphoedema in their absence
  • Support servicedevelopment and achievement of department aims and objectives
  • To be involved inclinical and hospice initiatives as required to achieve the strategic aims ofSouth Bucks Hospice.
  • Recognise and takepositive action to support the team at all times, working towards an holisticapproach to staff wellbeing
  • Comply with staffappraisals, performance reviews, training and educating
  • Undertake accurate reportingregarding the performance, operational needs and general capacity to the Headof Lymphoedema to ensure that the Lymphoedema department operates to its fullpotential.
  • Actively comply and demonstratethe implementation of good infection prevention control in accordance withpolicy and procedures.
  • Support the writing of policies and procedures for SouthBucks Hospice to achieve best practise at all times and ensuring departmentalcompliance with all policies including up to date safeguarding, mentalcapacity, GDPR, deprivation of liberty, resuscitation and advance care plans.
  • Provide nursing support acrossall services, when required

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Appropriate Nursing Qualification and minimum of two years experience within a similar position
  • Good understanding of Lymphoedema
