Role Overview

You will provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational management for three children’s homes. You will that all homes are fully compliant with Care Inspectorate regulations and other statutory guidelines, creating a safe, nurturing, and development-focused environment for children and young people in care. You will represents the organisation in interactions with regulatory bodies, ensuring the quality of care is consistently upheld to meet or exceed national standards.

The ideal candidate will :

  • Possess previous experience of managing residential children’s homes.
  • Possess relevant qualifications in social work, childcare, or management.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Understand safeguarding and child protection and have a thorough knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Have the ability to work flexibly, travel between sites, and respond to emergencies when required.
  • Possess a full UK manual driving licence.
  • Possess additional qualifications in therapeutic care or trauma-informed practice.
  • Have experience in strategic development and service improvement.
  • Be trained in crisis and physical intervention.
  • Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring high-quality care within all services
  • Conducting service visits to ensure the wellbeing of young people and staff
  • Leading the implementation of new methods of practice
  • Overseeing the implementation of strategies for young people
  • Ensuring robust admission and exit processes
  • Working closely with operations to respond to and improve recommendations from audits
  • Liaising with the training manager to develop new training
  • Ensuring young people have access to necessary therapies
  • Working collaboratively with education to ensure individual education plans are in place
  • Completing regulatory checks including : supervising and supporting the 'person in charge', ensuring SSSC databases are up to date, and working closely with HR to ensure recruitment processes align with Safer Recruitment.
  • Ensuring services are ready for inspection daily and that standards do not decrease.
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation
  • Dealing with child protection concerns
  • Ensuring admission checklists are in place
  • Providing supervision and training opportunities for managers
  • Ensuring services have appropriate staffing levels
  • Managing staff performance and overseeing disciplinary and grievance appeals
  • Monitoring young people's experience, ensure resources are sufficient
  • Maintaining effective communication with stakeholders
  • Service development responsibilities include identifying and instigating necessary changes, maintaining occupancy within services, and promoting the company's aims and vision.
  • Leading and mentoring service managers
  • Ensuring IT systems are used appropriately
  • Area Managers are expected to work 40 hours per week to meet the needs of the service, normal working hours will be between 9am and 5pm. Area Managers will remain flexible to offer support and assistance when required this may include evenings, nights, weekends and sleepovers.

    The nature of residential work is varied and, in many instances, unpredictable. All Area Managers are therefore expected to work in a flexible way and tasks that have not been covered in the job description have to be undertaken.

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for this position, you must :

  • Have experience of managing or overseeing the management of residential children’s homes.
  • Possess relevant qualifications in social work, childcare, or management.
  • Have a thorough understanding of Care Inspectorate and relevant regulations.
  • Have experience of budget management and financial planning.
  • Be eligible for SSSC registration and PVG membership for work with children and adults.
  • Possess a full manual UK driving licence, be eligible for car insurance for company cars, and have flexibility to travel between sites and respond to emergencies when required.
  • Possess excellent communication, IT, and teamwork skills.
  • Understand safeguarding and child protection.
