About us

HMCTS is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.��

Our�First-tier Tribunal for Tax�in Birmingham sits within our National Services region and is led by our Cluster Manager. We�manage centralised administrative and contact functions (telephone helpdesks) and we�re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people�s lives to deliver justice. Your role

As one of two Delivery Managers in the Tax Tribunal you will be responsible for the smooth running of�the Tax Tribunal, supporting your�Operations Manager to meet operational needs, deliver performance objectives and provide a consistent and customer-focused service.�

You�ll lead a team of Team Leaders to review performance, agree priority areas and manage the throughput of administrative work across difference stages of the tribunal process. You will encourage all colleagues to engage in Continuous Improvement and Development activities; ensuring all have the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve expected performance standards.�

Alongside the Tax Tribunal, you�ll also have the opportunity to lead and support the new Special Tribunals telephony team. This will involve working with the Tax Tribunal and seven other services to take leadership for allocation of call agents, quality checks on interactions with users and establishing a team in Birmingham to handle calls.�

You�ll maintain positive and effective working relationships with the judiciary, supporting agencies, and user groups, and strive for continuous improvement to improve operational efficiency. You�ll need to be familiar with work environments that are process and compliance driven and able to constructively manage complaints and complete corrective actions within set timescales. You�ll understand the importance of Health and Safety, IT / Workstation compliance and identifying and escalating any Court facilities issues.�

You�ll be able to give direction and close support to Team Leaders to develop their team plans to form part of the overall business plan for the region. You�ll make sure that targets are met and the team is resourced and trained effectively to meet your allocated budget, identifying and implementing solutions to local problems.�

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.�

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.�

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ�s Flexible Working policy.�Please note that the minimum number of hours is 25 per week and we cannot accommodate Friday as a non-working day.�

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, occasional travel to other National Services sites may be required.�

Fixed term appointments (FTA) on promotion

MoJ employees may apply for FTA opportunities in MoJ that are advertised at a higher grade than their current substantive grade. Where an employee accepts an FTA on promotion, this promotion will be temporary, and the employee will revert to their substantive grade upon return to their home business area, as per the loan policy for OGD loans. Before applying, employees must seek approval from their line managers to ensure they can be released for the duration of the FTA and can return to their substantive role at the end. If there is no role available at the end of the FTA, the employee will be subject to redeployment and potentially redundancy procedures. �

Loans / Detached Duty

The terms of the loan or detached duty will be agreed between the home and host department and the Civil Servant (candidate). This includes grade on return. Prior agreement to be released on a loan or detached duty basis should be obtained before commencing the application process.�
