Technical Specialist – Process Safety

Location : Moray House, Elgin

Contract : 2 Year Fixed Term (Office and Site Based)

About the Role

We are excited to offer a 2-year fixed term contract for a Technical Specialist in Process Safety to support the dynamic growth of Malt Scotch Whisky. As an integral member of the Malt Distilling Technical Team, you will collaborate closely with our distilling sites across Scotland. Your primary mission will be to implement a comprehensive process safety improvement programme across 30 distilling sites, 4 maltings, and 5 bioplants, driving our ambitions for future production opportunities.

This role requires a full-time presence in Elgin, Scotland, with daily attendance at Moray House and regular visits to other sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Process Safety Design : Implement a robust process safety design program across Malt Distilling, ensuring full alignment with category, geographic, and global policies.
  • Standard Processes : Identify and establish standard methodologies for process safety within the Malt Distilling footprint.
  • Long-term Planning : Develop and be responsible for a 10-year improvement plan to continuously improve process safety standards.
  • Innovation : Leverage new technologies to drive continuous improvements in process safety.
  • Performance Standards : Plan and develop performance standards, frameworks, and capabilities to meet scorecard targets, aligned with Diageo’s strategic objectives.
  • Compliance Oversight : Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, as well as consistency to good business practices.
  • Quality Control : Act as the gatekeeper for quality control on process safety hazard analysis methodologies, including HAZOP, Process Risk Assessments (PRA or equivalent experience), and management of change (MOC) processes.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with the Process Safety Risk Manager to support and influence protocols and standards.
  • Competency Assessment : Serve as the proficiency assessor for the process safety technical capability program within Malt Distilling.

To be successful in this Role, you will need :

  • A recognized degree-level qualification in an appropriate technical subject area, such as MEng Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Qualification preferred, or a willingness to work towards it.
  • A detailed knowledge of governance legislation and standards.
  • Proven track record to meet management performance standards.
  • Experience working with process safety in a continuous process industry.
  • Proactive approach in finding opportunities to improve site operations processes and actively participating in the change process.
  • Excellent engagement and communication skills.
  • Strong mentorship and influencing skills across a diverse range of collaborators / team members.
  • A full, clean driving license.
  • About You

Experience in an FMCG, Oil and Gas, or manufacturing environment, with hands-on knowledge of process safety, is preferred.
