Are you a MongoDB expert looking to take ownership of critical database systems in a fast-paced, data-driven environment? We are seeking a highly skilled MongoDB Database Administrator to join our client's team in Horley , where you'll play a key role in ensuring database stability, performance, and scalability.

This role offers a mix of hands-on database management, performance tuning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support a growing data infrastructure. You'll be involved in everything from proactive monitoring and capacity planning to troubleshooting complex issues in production systems.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities :

  • Install, configure, and maintain MongoDB clusters, ensuring smooth operation across production, staging and development environments
  • Continuously monitor database performance using Prometheus, Grafana, and other monitoring tools, proactively identifying bottlenecks and optimising queries
  • Manage replica sets, sharding, and cluster tuning to support a high-traffic, distributed data architecture
  • Design and implement robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring business continuity and minimal downtime
  • Leverage Python, Bash, or Golang to automate routine DBA tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention
  • Work closely with software engineers, DevOps, and data engineers to fine-tune queries, troubleshoot application issues, and optimise schema design
  • Implement security best practices, including authentication, access controls, and data encryption, to safeguard sensitive information
  • Provide 24 / 7 support for critical database issues, working under pressure to quickly resolve incidents and minimise service disruptions

What You’ll Need to Succeed :

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on MongoDB in high-performance environments
  • Deep expertise in replica sets, sharding, indexing, query optimisation, and aggregation pipelines
  • Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and high availability strategies to maintain resilient database systems
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other real-time relational databases is a plus
  • Experience with cloud-based MongoDB deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure) is beneficial
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Golang for automating DBA tasks
  • Ability to troubleshoot performance issues, slow queries, and database locks effectively
  • Experience working in a DevOps or SRE environment is advantageous
