Job description

Due to continued success, we are looking for a part-time Finance Officer to help with the day to day running of the finances.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Location : Remote

Hours : 20-25 hours per week to be spread over 4-5 days

Salary : Up to £45,000 dependent on experience (£28,125 based on 25 hours per week)

This role sits within the Finance & Operations team, which supports the wider business. The Finance and Operations team consists of five members, and is responsible for finance & performance, commercials, HR, operational excellence, quality, risk & compliance, and other administrative support.

To help us support the growing business, we are looking for a Finance Officer to :

  • Implement improvements to our finance processes and systems;
  • Provide financial analysis and / or reporting as required;
  • Help share the load of the existing (day-to-day) finance activities.

Responsibilities / Duties

As outlined above, part of the role will be to implement improvements within the finance team. Examples of these include :

  • Implement automated payment runs (i.e., payment runs to be sent from accounting system to online banking, to remove the need for manually entering the details into our online banking).
  • Set up the automated cash flow forecast feature available in our accounting software.
  • Implement triple-matching for purchase invoices (i.e., a process whereby purchase invoices are matched against a purchase order, plus a goods received note (or equivalent), before payment is made).
  • Implement a process whereby Heads of Departments can sign-off their respective departments expenses each month.
  • Examples of financial analysis / reporting include :

  • Calculating the return-on-investment on sales and marketing activities.
  • Variance analysis (forecast vs actuals).
  • Analysing financial performance by department.
  • The role will help share the load with some of the day-to-day finance activities below :

  • Cash flow forecast (monthly)
  • Payroll (monthly)
  • Credit control
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processing employee expenses
  • Support with month-end preparation (e.g., journals for WIP & wages apportionment, balance sheet reconciliation)
  • This role requires the successful candidate to be eligible to obtain and maintain UK security clearance.

    SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills – with attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
  • Experience with accounting software – such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel – including working with formulas, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools
  • Good understanding of bookkeeping and financial processes – including purchase and sales ledgers, reconciliations, and journals
  • Knowledge of UK accounting standards and financial regulations – including VAT, PAYE, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively – especially when working independently or part-time
  • Excellent communication skills – able to explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
  • Strong organisational skills – with the ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records
  • Discretion and integrity – with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Proactive and solution-focused approach – with a willingness to improve processes and contribute to the team

    Job Type : Part-time

    Pay : £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
