Job summary
Following the publication of our new Clinical Strategy the role of the Trainee Advanced Paramedics (tAP) in Pre-Hospital Care is an exciting development within East Midlands Ambulance Service and will provide an excellent opportunity for career development within a clinical role. The post will provide an opportunity for clinicians to be supported to provide advanced clinical management and co-ordination of complex and challenging care to critical care patients in clinically demanding situations and environments. You will work within a team of tAPs and AP's, primarily delivering the Trusts new Critical Care Desk, rotating between the desk in our Emergency Operation Centre, operational response vehicles and wider Trust clinical business.
The tAP will develop a wide-ranging breadth of knowledge and understanding in addition to evidence of critical thinking, patient assessment and clinical care over the period of the training role developing their confidence and competence which will be evidenced through a portfolio process. We are looking for credible individuals with strong and compassionate leadership abilities. The tAP will be expected to work towards the four domains of advanced practice, including contributing to service wide audit, research, training and education with a specific focus on clinical supervision for our Specialist Practitioner cohort.
Main duties of the job
This is a training post working towards Advanced Paramedic status.
The tAP role is a training post with the provision of a fully funded Masters pathway with the end attainment being that of a fully qualified Advanced Paramedic. This is predicted to take between 24 - 36 months (dependent on current qualifications) and supervisory support will be provided through experienced suitable clinicians and / or medics.
The tAP will provide advanced clinical care, leadership, and education / supervision across a range of clinical settings, with a primary focus on the Critical Care Desk (CCD), ensuring that they can demonstrate experience in the full range of AP competencies by the end of a 2 year period. Working as an autonomous practitioner the Trainee Advanced Paramedic (tAP) will be supported to provide advanced clinical management and co- ordination of complex and challenging care to patients in clinically demanding situations and environments.

If successful on the clinical assessment day, the candidate will progress to a formal interview. Interviews will take place week 7th October 2024 at Horizon Place Headquarters Nottingham with a start date of no later than 6th January 2025.
This is a band 7 role and on attainment of a full educational qualification in Advanced Practice alongside internal recommendation, the candidate will progress to a band 8a Advanced Paramedic position. This role is 24 / 7 and attracts unsocial hours as per the Agenda for Change section 2.
