Job summary

We are excited to announce a rewarding career opportunity for a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Endocrinologist. This is a new post being created to expand our diabetes and endocrine team. The Royal Sussex County is the specialist referral centre for Sussex and hosts tertiary services in neurosciences, vascular surgery, neonatology, paediatrics, cardiac, cancer, renal, infectious diseases and HIV medicine. As an NHS hospital renowned for its commitment to patient care, research, and innovation, we are seeking a passionate individual with expertise in Diabetes and Endocrinology to provide exceptional healthcare and make a significant impact on the lives of patients.

Main duties of the job

Asa Consultant in Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, you will play a crucial role in joining our team. Your responsibilities will include :

  • Providing expert clinical care to patients with endocrine conditions, both in an outpatient and inpatient setting. General and Specialist diabetes and endocrine clinics tailored according to interests and expertise.
  • Collaborating with our multidisciplinary diabetes and endocrine teams
  • Working with colleagues across specialities to develop pathways and provide multidisciplinary care.
  • Participating in rotational shared care of an 18-bed diabetes / general medical ward.
  • Speciality consults and supervision of Speciality Registrars
  • 1 : 8 general medicine and speciality weekend and bank holiday ward cover (8am - 2pm)
  • 1 : 16 8pm - 8am out-of hours telephone advice for general medicine
  • Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff, contributing to their development and training.
  • Contributing to audit, clinical governance and service development
  • Support participation in research and clinical trials
  • Participating in departmental meetings, case presentations, and teaching sessions for medical students and doctors in training.

Experience / Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic medical degree
  • Appropriate specialist qualification (SCE Endocrinology)
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • CCT in Specialty or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Desirable

  • Higher Degree (MD / PhD / equivalent)
  • Clinical Skills and Experience
