Principal Electrical Engineer - Oil & Gas | Nuclear | Power Distribution

Location : Manchester

Sector : Oil & Gas | Nuclear | Power Distribution

Contract Type : Contract

We're looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects across the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, and Power Distribution sectors. From concept studies through to FEED, you'll provide technical leadership, oversee engineering design, and ensure successful project execution.

This is a client-facing role, requiring a proactive approach to problem-solving, compliance, and technical decision-making. You'll collaborate with a team of talented engineers in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering activities across all project phases, ensuring technical excellence and compliance.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering documentation, technical designs, and specifications.
  • Allocate work within the team, providing technical oversight and mentoring.
  • Develop electrical system designs in line with national and international standards.
  • Prepare technical specifications and material requisitions for :
  • HV & LV switchboards
  • Transformers
  • UPS systems
  • VFDs, Motors, and Power Factor Correction
  • Trace-heating and lighting systems
  • Power distribution networks, including substations, switchgear, and cabling
  • Define installation scopes of work and conduct technical bid evaluations.
  • Review supplier quotations and assess technical compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (BEng / MEng) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it (preferred)
  • Proven experience in Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or Power Distribution projects
  • Strong knowledge of national and international electrical standards (IEC, BS, IEEE, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical design tools and power system analysis software
  • Ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and deliver complex projects
