About the role
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Officer specialising in biomechanics / bioengineering. Candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in a related field and demonstrate significant experience in leading independent research projects. Proficiency in research methodologies, particularly in musculoskeletal and / or computational biomechanics, is essential, with some exposure to medical imaging and / or computer vision. The ideal candidate will possess the capability to innovatively integrate and implement appropriate research methodologies, models, and techniques.
Main Responsibilities
The position involves supporting the delivery of our Orthopaedic Research UK funded project, which aims to enhance the prescription, design, and production of ankle foot orthoses, as well as contributing to other ongoing research endeavours. The incumbent will take charge of tasks related to data collection and analysis, resulting in seminal research outputs.
Additionally, this role encompasses the development of research objectives and grant proposals within the broader field of interest to the research group. You will be contributing to planning and executing research work which employs research approaches, methodologies, and techniques that are relevant to your experience and expertise. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in documenting your work for publication and actively participating in its dissemination.
You will become a member of a globally renowned research team at the Centre for Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Technologies led by Professor Nachiappan Chockalingam and Associate Professor Panagiotis Chatzistergos. Their primary research interests encompass foot and ankle biomechanics, early detection and management of scoliosis, and the integrated application of medical imaging, mechanical testing, and computer modelling to investigate tissue biomechanics, injury, and rehabilitation.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your creativity and initiative to identify new research areas, refine research methodologies, and expand your research portfolio. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, including the ability to convey complex information clearly. Additionally, you should possess a high level of analytical proficiency to scrutinise and interpret data, as well as critically evaluate reports and literature.
This role will also entail collaboration with our international partners and engagement with industry stakeholders.
