SEN Class Teacher - PE & Outdoor Education (with TLR for Curriculum Lead)

Location : Ashton-under-Lyne

Start Date : September 2025 (or as soon as notice period allows)

Salary : Main / Upper Teachers' Pay Scale + SEN Allowance (£2,539) + TLR2A (£3,391)

Contract : Permanent | Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

Aspire People is currently working in partnership with a well-regarded specialist secondary school in Ashton-under-Lyne to recruit a qualified SEN Class Teacher with a specialism in PE and Outdoor Education. This exciting opportunity includes a TLR for leading curriculum development in this area.

This is a fantastic role for an ambitious, passionate teacher looking to lead innovation in PE and Outdoor Learning, while supporting students with special educational needs.

About the Role :

The school provides high-quality education for pupils aged 11-16 with complex needs, including moderate learning difficulties, autism, and communication challenges. All students have an EHCP, and the staff are committed to delivering personalised, inclusive learning.

This position involves full-time class teaching of PE and Outdoor Education, alongside the responsibility of Curriculum Lead for this area. You'll design, implement and monitor a relevant and engaging curriculum that supports progress in both physical development and life skills, while promoting independence and resilience.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Deliver engaging and accessible PE and Outdoor Education lessons tailored to pupils with SEND
  • Lead the development and coordination of the PE curriculum across the school
  • Use assessment data to track progress and inform planning
  • Contribute to whole-school development and student well-being
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and achievement
  • Promote the ethos of inclusion and support the emotional, social, and physical needs of all learners

About You :

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • Proven experience teaching children / young people with SEND
  • Excellent knowledge of PE curriculum and outdoor education strategies
  • Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing, adaptable approach
  • Experience using data to inform teaching and track pupil progress
  • Ability to inspire, lead and work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Resilience, creativity and a passion for making learning meaningful
