Job summary

Consultant Stroke Physician

This is an exciting opportunity to join our existing team in the Neurosciences Directorate at UHNM, this position will be primarily based at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust. Stroke services based at UHNM participate in a stronger together partnership with Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust collaborating on patients treatment.

Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity will involve working primarily at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust with an opportunity to work at the University Hospital of North Midlands. The post will cover all areas of stroke care, including hyper-acute stroke care, post stroke care and stroke rehabilitation.

From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales. Our stroke services participate in a stronger together partnership with Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust collaborating on the care of stroke patients.

Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCP (or equivalent)
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for stroke unit care.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a stroke unit in the UK.
  • On the Specialist Register
  • Clinical Experience & Training

    Essential

  • Sub-speciality training in Stroke medicine
  • Experience in assessing patients for thrombolysis / thrombectomy in Hyper Acute Ischaemic Stroke
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty
  • Good writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Comprehensive training appropriate to this post
  • Desirable

  • Experience of undergraduate teaching
  • Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

    Essential

  • Experience of conducting clinical audit.
  • Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decisionmaking.
  • Desirable

  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Management and Administrative Experience :

    Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Ability to organise research and work within research governance procedures.
