Job Summary

Responsible for the hotel’s Event Sales, this position reactively sells the hotel, managing the sales phase of incoming group and catering enquiries through to contract stage.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the reactive sales of group bedroom and catering enquiries from start to contract handover. Enquiries will be mostly corporate, with a few exceptions. Communication channels include telephone, e-mail or 3rd party intermediary sites
  • Qualifies business opportunities by understanding customer needs and recommends the appropriate features and services of hotel to exceed customer expectations; sells according to the business and operational strategy of the hotel
  • Creates quotations and proposals based on customer requirements, conducts regular follow-up calls to identify changing needs, converts enquiries into confirmed bookings, issues contracts and ensures a smooth handover to the Events Team
  • Inputs enquiries into the relevant booking systems and ensures data integrity
  • Conducts site visits to showcase hotel
  • Conducts post-event calls to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels and secure repeat business
  • Builds long-term partnerships with new and repeat business customers and builds loyalty to the hotel and company
  • Identifies potential opportunities for the wider business and turns over to the proactive Sales Team
  • Engages with hotel Operations Team to ensure client expectations can be met and exceeded
  • Executes exemplary customer service according to company’s standards to ensure customer satisfaction in the sales phase
  • Carries out tasks as assigned by the Event Sales Manager

Other Responsibilities

  • Adapts to changing market conditions
  • Understands local market including competitors' strengths and weaknesses
  • Understands guest satisfaction results to ensure continuous improvement within the sales phase
  • Collaborates with Events Team to ensure effective diary management of function rooms
  • Collaborates with Revenue Team to ensure effective management of bedroom enquiries and completes accurate projections
  • Ensures balance scorecard criteria is met
  • Works on additional projects set by the Senior Event Manager
  • Works collaboratively with on- and off-property sales channels to optimise sales process for client
  • Attends hotel events as required to develop key relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by management
  • Works with Human Resources, Engineering and Loss Prevention to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and / or union requirements
  • Complies with all Marriott International policies and procedures at all times
  • Skills required

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, writing) and a high standard of English is essential
  • Confident communication style across different channels (telephone, e-mail, intermediary websites
  • Confident sales skills; ability to negotiate; strong problem-solving skills, and ability to seek solutions
  • Strong organisation and time management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Good with administration, processes and has a high level of attention to detail

  • Previous experience of SFA / Web, Opera would be advantageous but not essential

    Update information board on a regular basis to inform employees of important events. Provide assistance and guidance to employees who are struggling with job duties (., low package sales numbers). Assign lead calls or emails to Sales Executives based on line rotation. Create spreadsheets to organize information related to Sales and Marketing activities (., mailing lists, tours). Enter, retrieve, reconcile, and verify information in software involved in the sales process. Contact appropriate individual or department as necessary to resolve guest calls, requests, or problems. Promote awareness of brand image internally and externally. Use sales techniques that maximize revenue while maintaining existing guest loyalty to Marriott, including up-selling. Encourage guests or callers to purchase or schedule preview package sales / tours and answer questions about property facilities / services.

    Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating and coaching employees; serve as a role model and first point of contact of the Guarantee of Fair Treatment / Open Door Policy process. Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager. Follow all company policies and procedures; ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; protect company assets. Anticipate and address guests’ service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language; prepare and review written documents accurately and completely; answer telephones using appropriate etiquette. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards; identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational quality. Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education : High school diploma or GED equivalent.

    Related Work Experience : At least 1-year of related work experience.

    Supervisory Experience : No supervisory experience.

    License or Certification : None
