Founding Engineer

Location : London Area (Hybrid-friendly)

Very early VC-backed start-up are building multi-speaker AI audio solutions for enterprise. Specifically, it's AI Audio tooling combined with open source and existing models to enable businesses to launch podcasts in days instead of months.

They're looking for a hands-on engineer to build the foundation of the product and technology. You’ll work directly with the founders and play a key role in shaping the company’s future. This hiring is backed by revenue and a recent oversubscribed funding round.

What You’ll Be Doing (Day-to-Day)

As the first technical hire, your day-to-day will be varied, fast-paced, and high-impact. Expect to :

Own product development from end to end :

  • Translate early concepts and wireframes into working software
  • Build and iterate on our MVP across the full stack —using tools you already know (like React, Node.js, and cloud-native infrastructure)
  • Set up and manage CI / CD pipelines, codebase structure, and dev tooling

Work one-on-one with the founder :

  • Collaborate on product decisions, sprint planning, and company roadmap
  • Participate in customer discovery and feed insights back into technical decisions
  • Prototype new features or explore emerging technologies (e.g. AI voice models, summarization engines)

    • Lay the groundwork for scale :

  • Choose and implement foundational architecture and infrastructure (e.g., database design, APIs, microservices vs monolith decisions)
  • Create reusable component libraries and internal tools
  • Prioritise performance, accessibility, and scalability from day one

    • Shape the culture and team :

  • Help define engineering standards, workflows, and values
  • Contribute to hiring and onboarding the next wave of engineers
  • Be a generalist — jumping in wherever needed to keep us moving fast

    • Ship constantly :

  • You’ll be hands-on writing production code nearly every day
  • Short cycles, regular releases, and fast iteration will be the norm

    A highly driven builder — someone who’s excited to get their hands dirty, make big decisions, and work hard to build something meaningful and reap the rewards you deserve from that hard work.

    You’ll bring : Full-stack fluency :

  • Deep experience with a modern frontend framework (React, Next.js, etc.)
  • Comfortable working on backend APIs and cloud
  • Able to take a feature from design to deployment independently or in collaboration

    • Start-up experience or mindset :

  • You've either worked in an early-stage environment or are drawn to it — wearing many hats, moving fast, and doing what it takes it get the job done.
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and motivated by ownership

    • Autonomy and drive :

  • You take initiative, manage your own time, and don’t need hand-holding
  • You know when to move fast and when to slow down and think
  • You’re accountable, focused, and hungry to win

    • Collaboration and communication :

  • You’re clear, thoughtful, and concise in how you communicate — async or live
  • You know how to ask good questions, give helpful feedback, and bring others along

    • Nice to have (but not required) :

  • Experience working with AI / ML APIs and / or models, especially with voice.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, observability, or security in a start-up context
  • Having worked on a greenfield project before – at work or outside
