Labour Ward Manager

We are looking for a highly motivated senior midwife with labour ward coordinator experience to join our team as Labour Ward Manager.

You will lead a team of Midwives, MSWs, HCSWs and admin staff providing care on our labour ward to families across our large geographical area.

You will work in collaboration with our multidisciplinary team including Obstetricians, Anaesthetists, the Neonatal team and theatre teams to lead on the provision of safe and personalised care.

Main duties of the job

The key purpose of the role is to ensure that women receive expert midwifery and clinical care through individual practice and dissemination of best practice through the health care team. The post holder will act as a resource to colleagues both within and outside the organisation. The role will be clinically based and women focused.

To lead and manage the activities of midwives working with members of the multi-disciplinary team in the Labour ward, providing leadership, support and expert clinical advice pertinent to Intrapartum care.

To maintain a professional, approachable disposition at all times with all members of staff, patients and their visitors.

To have a high level and understanding of national maternity drivers particularly in relation to intrapartum care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the 24-hour management and clinical leadership of the midwifery services within Labour Ward and Labour Theatres.

Will be expected to lead a team, team build, organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals within their sphere of responsibility.

Will be expected to performance manage both the activity and members of the team. To make an effective contribution to reaching the Trusts vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes. Performing Return to Work conversations and facilitating flexi working conversations.

To work closely with the Maternity senior leadership team to shape and contribute to Airedale hospitals Maternity Strategy and the development of quality Maternity services.

Person Specification

Education and professional training

Essential

  • Registered Midwife currently on the NMC register
  • Relevant health related degree
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge and experience of leadership
  • Mentorship or teaching accreditation : ENB 997 or equivalent, SSA supervisor and assessor.

Desirable

  • PMA qualification
  • Master's Degree or working towards
  • Knowledge and experience

    Essential

  • Experience at Band 7 ability to demonstrate experience in all midwifery practice
  • Ability to manage and undertake all roles within labour Ward, including high dependency care.
  • Experience of multi professional working
  • Demonstrates clear vision of patient care and service delivery
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of clinical governance and risk management and its impact on services
  • Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and implementation
  • Experience of reporting data analysis in a variety of reports
