We have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Legal Counsel ( year fixed term role) perfect for someone who is a self-starter, confident in dealing with senior management and working in governance.

As one of our Employment Legal Counsels you’ll report to Managing Legal Counsel, Employment and be responsible for assisting with the mitigation of strategic employment law risks within Santander UK. You’ll deliver technically sound, business focused and concise employment legal advice that is readily understandable to non-lawyers operating in the Bank.

The difference you’ll make :

Managing the employment litigation and pre-action matters sharing relevant best practices with HR and helping embed lessons learned

Providing business focused employment law advice on complex / regulatory breach related internal investigations, regulatory or criminal investigations, whistleblowing, accountability reviews, complex grievances and disciplinary proceedings

Advising on the employment aspects of material outsourcings, acquisitions, disposals, mergers and other corporate transactions including TUPE issues

Providing employment law advice to drive continuous improvement of HR policies

Providing practical, pragmatic and strategic advice in relation to HR Reward matters as well as HR DSARs and employee-related data privacy issues

What you’ll bring :

Either a current Solicitor Practising Certificate for England and Wales or you will be fully admitted to the English Bar

Excellent knowledge of employment law (with practical experience on advising on TUPE, complex employee relations issues and employment litigation)

It would also be nice for you to have :

Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework of UK financial services including practical experience of advising on the application of SMCR (including SYSC ), Remuneration Codes (SYSC ) and whistleblowing (SYSC )

Good understanding of the financial services industry, the political and economic environment in general and Santander strategy and initiatives

Significant experience of building relationships with and influencing internal stakeholders;

Experience of managing external counsel and ensuring cost control.

This is a fixed term ( year) position working between our London offices and home.
