Job description

Job Description

Salary :             Competitive

Location :         Tamworth, UK

Contract :         Permanent

Hours :              37.5 per week, full-time

Closing date :   20th December 2024

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a forensic analyst to join our fantastic marks and traces team at our site based at our EFS Midlands facility in Tamworth. If you are passionate about a rewarding career in Forensic testing and want to use your expertise to its full potential, then this is a great opportunity to join a well-established and successful market leading company with over 30 years’ experience in providing Forensic Services to the Police forces of England and Wales, as well as other commercial organisations and public sector bodies.

This is a truly exciting time to begin or continue your career with our first-class business, as a Forensic Analyst you will be responsible for the analytical analysis of trace material using (for example) scanning electron microscopy, gas chromatography and / or FTIR. Although rarely requested, this role occasionally requires production of a suitable witness statement and attendance at Courts of Law.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police personnel vetting standards (NPPV / 3 and SC), as such any criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. Further information on the security clearance process and requirement can be found at https : / / www.warwickshire.police.uk / police-forces / warwickshire-police / areas / warwickshire-police / about-us / about-us / police-national-vetting-service / . In addition, all successful applicants will be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing prior to commencing employment

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The successful candidate will : -

  • Undertake analysis of trace material, as generated during item examinations.
  • Complete / project manage validation research projects, including production of compliance reports for accreditation.
  • Produce and assess generated results for use in forensic cases.
  • Carry out analysis as per standard operating procedures to required timescales.
  • Be responsible for the integrity and continuity of exhibits.
  • Communicate with other scientists as appropriate throughout the lifetime of a case.

Qualifications

The ideal Candidate :

We are looking for someone with a degree level qualification, or equivalent, in chemistry or related subject; or demonstrable professionally- gained experience to the same standard. Other desirable attributes include : -

  • Demonstrating good communication and organisational skills.
  • Having high levels of resilience and flexibility and the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Communicate and work proactively with others (both colleagues and customers), focussing on a collective goal.
  • The right person to thrive in this role will be highly motivated, enthusiastic and possesses the competence and team spirit to support others and contribute to a positive culture. Here at EFS integrity and customer focus is at the heart of everything we do, and the ability to own issues and actively support their resolution alongside embracing continuous improvement with active involvement would be a distinct advantage and will see you excel in this role.

If you have knowledge of working in a laboratory environment using analytical equipment (e.g. scanning electron microscopy, gas chromatography, FTIR etc.), preferably within a forensic capacity, then we would love to hear from you.
