A high-growth tech scale-up is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to play a pivotal role in driving core feature development on their Node.js / TypeScript-based platform, hosted on AWS. This isn’t about maintaining legacy systems – it’s about building the future, fast.

This is not a role for someone who just wants to follow tickets. They're looking for someone with a voice, a vision, and the experience to influence technical direction.

What you'll be doing :

  • Leading the development of new features and core backend systems using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS
  • Supporting and guiding junior developers and contractors – writing tickets, reviewing code, unblocking issues
  • Collaborating closely with the product team to shape features and deliver on client expectations
  • Bringing structure and calm to a fast-moving roadmap – especially valuable if you’ve had experience in team leadership or technical mentoring
  • Potential to grow into a team lead role over time (if that’s where your ambitions lie)

What they’re looking for :

  • Substantial real-world experience in Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS backend development – ideally 10+ years in software engineering, but quality trumps years
  • A strong problem-solver who thrives on building things properly, not just quickly
  • Someone with the maturity and confidence to own their code and collaborate effectively across the business
  • Experience with React is a plus, though this is very much a backend-heavy role
  • Ideally, experience mentoring or leading developers – even in an informal capacity

    • Location & Flexibility :

  • Hybrid role : Ideally based in London, with 3 days / week in the office
  • Open to strong candidates outside London, provided they can commit to 1 day / week in the office
  • The key is being close enough to build relationships in person, especially in the early days

    • Salary & Package :

  • 80,000 depending on experience and leadership skills
