Capital One is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join a backend team in our London office on a hybrid basis.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a team or cross-functional squad in delivering complex projects supporting broader business outcomes.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for technical design, implementation, and operational considerations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Support the elevation of engineering enablement, excellence, and experience across the engineering community.
  • Develop and disseminate best practices, tools, patterns, and frameworks to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Focus on a significant portion of existing or new team software, such as components, features, or services.
  • Work towards the goals and vision shared by Product Management and Tribe Leadership.
  • Innovate within your team and contribute within your technical domain.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in technical leadership, including leading a team or squad.
  • Experience working with backend services and mobile technologies.
  • Exceptional programming skills, especially in building APIs with modern OO languages like Java, and knowledge of SOLID principles, SOA, HTTP, and REST.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud-based development.
  • Designing secure, scalable architectures.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to maximize inner-sourcing and reduce waste.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality applications at scale.
  • Advocacy for quality, supporting teams with practices like Pair Programming, TDD, and BDD.

    This is a permanent position based in our London office with a hybrid working model, working from the office 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays).
