Graduate Ecologist

Salary : £29,000

Location : Redhill, Bradford on Avon

Contract Type : Part Time Apprenticeship

Binnies part of the RSK Group , is seeking a Graduate Ecologist to join our Consultancy team.

As a Graduate Ecologist , you will participate in our development programme and become a valued member of our experienced team at Binnies. You will work on diverse projects including flood, coastal, and water infrastructure for clients such as the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, and local authorities, among others. There are opportunities to support water and catchment projects, natural capital initiatives, and Solutions By Nature, our venture for nature-based solutions via blue-green infrastructure.

Our ecologists work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable solutions and maximize Biodiversity Net Gain. Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute), and holds the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, reflecting our high standards in EIA delivery.

We offer mentoring and training to develop your ecological assessment skills and support your progression towards CIEEM chartership. We also assist in obtaining protected species licences. Binnies covers two professional memberships as part of our benefits.

With offices worldwide and projects in over 100 countries, Binnies offers international career possibilities. You will gain experience in major UK infrastructure projects as well.

Role responsibilities include :

  • Assisting with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) at all project stages, including SEA, feasibility, screening, and reporting.
  • Preparing supporting documents for planning applications and environmental consents.
  • Providing environmental support on projects like flood risk management, water utilities, rail, renewable energy, and large infrastructure.
  • Supporting environmental fieldwork.
  • Performing Environmental Clerk of Works roles.
  • Liaising with project teams, clients, stakeholders, and the public.

About You :

Ideal candidates are entry-level ecology graduates or have up to 2 seasons of experience.

  • Ecological / environmental degree
  • Practical ecological survey experience
  • Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize work independently
  • Willing to work unsociable hours
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Preferred but not essential experience includes bat sound analysis, Arc GIS experience, CIEEM membership, construction site safety, and protected species licences.
