Job description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will work closely with construction and project management to manage and monitor the commercial aspects of delivery of assigned contracts to budget. They will liaise with the Senior Surveyor / Commercial Manager as well as the finance, procurement and estimating teams in order to ensure delivery of budget and financial information. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will also support the Assistant Quantity Surveyors and the Quantity Surveyors.

Role Responsibilities :

  • Manage and monitor assigned project plans, budgets, costs, and contract terms, with support from a senior surveyor.
  • Coordinate with Surveyors and the Senior Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller, Procurement Manager, and Estimator.
  • Value works and compile documentation for CVR, cash flow forecasts, and sales forecasts.
  • Discuss with clients and sign off documentation.
  • Oversee orders, deliveries, and invoicing of materials.
  • Manage sub-contractor orders, approvals, and payments.
  • Handle valuations and related documentation.
  • Understand and work within the budget provided by the Estimating department.
  • Keep Project Probe updated with relevant information and record all budget and cost changes for approval.
  • Provide data to update sales forecasts, cash flow forecasts, and CVR.
  • Attend project site meetings and provide commercial insights.
  • Prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Identify potential commercial risks to the project and supply chain.
  • Ensure timely receipt, review, and comment on Payment Certificates to maximize cash flow.
  • Guide and mentor members of the commercial team, including AQS, Project QS’s, estimating teams, and purchasing staff.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • Qualified or nearing completion of a relevant qualification such as HND, HNC, AIOB, FIOB, RICS, or a Degree in Surveying, with experience as a senior or managing surveyor in the construction industry.
  • CSCS card - visitor’s card or as required by the client.
  • Knowledge of programme and project management, including GANTT charts and tracking financial information.
  • CRB / Disclosure clearance as required for specific sites, e.g., schools.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Competent in MS Word, Microsoft Outlook, and calendar management.
