Duties Description Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.
Duties include but are not limited to : Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. Will be expected to operate plows during winter operations and to obtain the equipment certifications listed above. Additional duties during periods of fair weather may involve roadside maintenance, drainage maintenance, traffic control, and other assigned tasks. Overtime response and shift work are requirements for this job; therefore, use of vacation and personal leaves are subject to operational needs.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1 :
Must be 18 years old, pass physical / medical examination and drug test
Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 :
Must be 18 years old, pass physical / medical examination
Highway Maintenance Worker 1 :
Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications : heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.
Within the first two weeks of employment, applicant must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification or their employment will be terminated.
