Commercial / Legal Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team. The Commercial Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the commercial and legal aspects of our tender and construction projects including contract reviews procurement and contract negotiation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial management excellent financial acumen and a proven track record of delivering successful projects in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review tender stage contracts and conduct high level and detailed mark-up review for consideration and forward submission
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients subcontractors suppliers and other third parties to secure favourable terms and conditions.
  • Identify any commercial or legal risks associated with the tenders / contracts
  • Involve in the tender and construction procurement process including supplier selection contract administration and performance evaluation to ensure timely delivery of materials and services
  • Conduct regular cost reviews and value engineering exercises to optimize project costs and enhance profitability.
  • Prepare activity schedules forecasts and the like for tenders
  • Collaborate with Estimators Estimating Managers / Bid Manager Design Management Engineers Quantity Surveyors
  • Stay abreast of industry trends market conditions and regulatory requirements affecting the construction sector adapting strategies and practices accordingly.
  • Prepare and agree LOI wording for minor or enabling works contracts

Skills and Experience

  • Based in HO in Glasgow
  • Report directly to the Deputy Managing Director
  • Bachelors degree in quantity surveying civil engineering construction management or a related field. Chartered status or relevant professional qualifications (e.g. MRICS / CICES) preferred.
  • Ideally 10 years plus experience in civil engineering contracting
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts i.e. NEC FIDIC SBBC contracts including sub-contracts
