Static Detonation Chamber Electro Mechanical Engineer

The Role

As a Static Detonation Electromechanical Engineer you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, troubleshooting and optimising electromechanical systems used in the safe processing and disposal of munitions and explosives in our Static Detonation Chamber.

Day-to-day, you’ll ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of the SDC facility by integrating mechanical and electrical engineering principles into explosive ordnance demilitarization operations.

Your responsibilities will include :

• Designing, developing and optimising electromechanical systems for the handling, processing and disposal of ordnance and munitions in the SDC
• Ensuring the proper integration of mechanical components, electrical systems and automation technologies to enhance system performance
• The diagnosis and repairing of electromechanical failures in the SDC and related equipment ensuring minimal downtime
• Working closely with maintenance teams to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on motors, actuator, conveyors and robotic handling systems
• Ensuring all engineering and maintenance activities comply with HSE,DS and MOD regulations, participating in hazard analysis and risk assessments for system modifications and new equipment installations
• Maintaining detailed maintenance logs and technical documentations for compliance purposes

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Shoeburyness site. This role is a fully on-site role.

QinetiQ Shoeburyness is a significant test and evaluation facility specialising in defence and security technologies. The site is focused on Environmental Testing including the evaluation of various ordnance, explosives and related systems. Implementing measures to ensure that testing activities comply with environmental regulations and minimise ecological impact.
