The Lavery is newly opened restaurant, events space and most recently a newly launched neighbourhood cafe in South Kensington. Set in a beautifully restored townhouse, our restaurant offers a refined yet welcoming atmosphere just steps from galleries and museums.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a passionate and talented chef ready to take next steps and work side-by-side with Head Chef, Yohei Furuhashi (formerly of River Café, Toklas, and Petersham Nurseries). Together, you’ll bring a vibrant, seasonal Mediterranean menu to life, in a kitchen built from the ground up for creativity and precision.

What We’re Looking For :

We’re looking for a Sous Chef with a deep love for produce led, seasonalfood and experience in leading busy restaurant kitchen. As a key member of our team, you'll play a central role in delivering smooth, efficient services while nurturing the growth of junior chefs and maintaining exceptional kitchen standards. We’re looking for someone who wants to be a part of a new opening and someone who is excited by the challenge of building something up in its early stages.

What You’ll Be Doing :

Financials and Performance :

  • Assist in tracking kitchen performance, producing stock and waste reports, and highlighting opportunities to improve gross profit margins
  • Support the Head Chef in achieving food cost targets, managing kitchen budgets, and completing financial reporting
  • Help support inventory management, ordering, and kitchen organisation with accuracy and foresight
  • Oversee and manage the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Support the uphold and ensure high standards of food hygiene and health & safety practice, ensuring up to date Health and Safety records and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot in real-time, particularly under pressure and maintaining a solutions-oriented mindset

Supporting Menu Development :

  • Collaborate with the Head Chef on menu development and seasonal specials
  • Ensure consistency, precision, and quality across all dishes, including creating food specifications for training.
  • People Management :

  • Help train new joiners and mentor and develop junior chefs with patience and clarity.
  • Foster a team-first culture, sharing knowledge and a love of food at every opportunity
  • Lead and support the team through busy services with a calm approach
  • Mentor and develop junior chefs with patience, clarity, and enthusiasm
