The role

As a Principal Marine Structures Engineer, you will be part of a national team within the Marine Sector of Babcock, providing naval architecture, marine system engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling, and project support services to the marine and defence markets.

You will be responsible for authoring, reviewing, and substantiating Marine and Structural designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support. You will lead product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support to key customers, ensuring efficient delivery of engineering outputs. You will act as Technical Authority with deep subject knowledge in Marine / Mechanical engineering, with responsibilities for the delivery of engineering outputs and leadership.

  • Authoring and reviewing substantiation reports / designs for installation solutions.
  • Leading the production of substantiation reports across all design lifecycle phases, ensuring standards, time, cost, and quality requirements are met.
  • Leading design teams and stakeholders, supporting design reviews, and acting as Technical Authority.
  • Developing innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation.
  • Resolving manufacturing and installation issues by addressing technical and production queries.
  • Producing, approving, and authorising technical reports and documentation.

This role is based on-site in Devonport with hybrid working options.

Essential experience : Extensive knowledge and experience in design development, problem-solving within the specialist area.

Qualifications : Degree qualified preferred; HND / HNC in engineering with extensive relevant experience considered. Membership in relevant institutions (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst) and Chartered status preferred.

The candidate must be able to obtain SC security clearance.
