Head of Residential & Commercial Property – Solicitor

Location : St Albans (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary : £60,000 – £75,000 (DOE)

An established, multi-office law firm with national recognition in Chambers UK, The Legal 500, and The Times Best Law Firms is looking for a Residential & Commercial Property Solicitor to lead its property department in St Albans. This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior property lawyer to step into a key leadership role and drive the future growth of a thriving legal team.

If you’re an experienced Residential & Commercial Property Solicitor with a passion for excellence and team development, this role offers real autonomy, strategic influence, and long-term career progression.

The Opportunity : As a Residential & Commercial Property Solicitor , you will head up the property team in St Albans while working alongside colleagues across multiple offices. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the department’s structure, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality legal services across residential and commercial matters.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage the Residential & Commercial Property Solicitor team in St Albans
  • Handle a caseload of residential and commercial transactions, including sales, purchases, remortgaging, land acquisition, and disposal
  • Oversee junior solicitors, conveyancers, and support staff, providing supervision and guidance
  • Drive business development efforts, networking with clients, agents, and referrers to grow the practice
  • Ensure compliance with CQS, Lexcel, lender panel, and Land Registry requirements
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategy, staffing, finance, training, and systems improvements
  • Promote a culture of excellence, teamwork, and client-focused service

The Ideal Candidate : To succeed as a Residential & Commercial Property Solicitor , you will bring :

  • 10+ years PQE in residential and commercial property law
  • A proven track record of handling complex transactions and leading teams
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A strategic, proactive mindset with a focus on team development and growth
  • A hands-on approach to leadership and client care
