ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE FINANCE – 7+ yrs PQE

LONDON / EDINBURGH

Brief

We are currently looking to recruit a talented lawyer to join the Structured and Project Finance Team in London or Edinburgh office, ideally a candidate with at least 7 years PQE specialising in the area.

Background

The role is for a finance lawyer sitting within the market leading Structured and Project Finance Team, which is part of the Projects Group. The team carries out a wide range of top tier and high value project and finance work, including development and financing of new energy and infrastructure projects and refinancings, operational support and M&A relating to those projects, as well as other energy efficiency and low carbon advisory mandates. The clients consist of UK and international banks, renewable energy developers, oil and gas / energy companies, infrastructure funds, private equity, and utilities. The work has an increasingly international flavor, working with colleagues in other Pinsent Masons offices. This is a transactional role with significant client contact and opportunities to specialize in a strategic industry sector.

Our Team

The team acts for clients in energy and infrastructure sectors, handling the full lifecycle of financing transactions from initial term sheets and RfPs to financial close and post-close support. It works on some of the largest projects in the UK and collaborates globally. The London team is led by Stephen Tobin and Apicksha Patel; the Edinburgh team by Gillian Frew. The team frequently collaborates across offices.

Work highlights

  • Advised Zenobe Energy on the £235m (and £400m accordion) financing of a 200MW / 400MWh battery storage project in Scotland. This is the largest facility for battery energy storage projects in Europe.
  • Acted for NTR on the portfolio financing of 12 onshore wind projects.
  • Led legal advice for Dalmore Capital on operational PFI projects.
  • Supported NatWest, AIB, and Sabadell on financing five anaerobic digestion projects.
  • Advised the Port of Aberdeen on a loan from Scottish National Investment Bank.
  • Supported a development financial institution and co-lenders on the Takoradi Port Project in Ghana.
  • Advised an international financial institution on financing a telecommunications network in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Continued advising Flogas on converting its LNG facility at Avonmouth into a LPG storage terminal.
  • Advised a consortium on the acquisition and financing of Smart Meter Assets in the UK.
  • Supported a South African financial institution with green loans for climate projects across Africa.
  • Advised on the procurement of the Dublin Metrolink project in Ireland.
