Band 3 Children's Health Care Support Worker

An opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the team on Sophie's Place, caring for children and young people in both our outpatient department and acute assessment ward. If you are looking for a new challenge, we are interested in hearing from you! This role offers the chance to work with children with a range of medical and surgical needs and to develop new clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

Sophie's Place is a children's day assessment ward and outpatient service at Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Winchester site), serving children and young people of all ages.

In this varied role, you will work alongside registered nursing staff to ensure high-quality care is delivered to children and their families. Excellent communication skills with children and young people are essential for engaging with them effectively to assess their care needs.

The role is diverse, with opportunities to learn additional skills such as performing blood tests and lung function tests on children.

We will provide support and opportunities for you to develop further skills to enhance your role.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

  • NVQ level 2 or higher in Health, Health and Social Care, or working towards it; or NVQ childcare / NEEB / City & Guilds
  • Basic understanding of normal child development

Experience & Knowledge

  • At least one year’s experience working with children and the general public
  • Previous experience in a health or social care role
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • IT literacy
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
