Job description

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the team at one of the trusts in East England, to provide an innovative and forward-thinking service and continue to develop and improve the unique Personality Disorder Service.

The trust aims to provide a therapeutic environment offering planned care and treatment focusing on Psychosocial Interventions, DBT skills, and individual Recovery Plans.

The Trust only works on Direct Engagement Mode of payment.

Description :

As an Occupational Therapist, you will deliver specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions including supporting access to vocational rehabilitation, occupation focused group work, sensory strategies, re-ablement work, functional assessments, and vocation focused intervention.

  • To provide operational management for in-reach occupational therapy service.
  • To provide specialist advice and operational support (including recruitment) around the ward-based occupational therapy role development.
  • To apply an expert level of understanding of occupation to the development of the ward based occupational therapy roles.
  • To promote meaningful occupation within all aspects of ward routine and service delivery to support recovery, resilience & self-management.
  • To be active in developing a refreshed occupational therapy pathway within in-patient areas, harnessing new ways of working for occupational therapists.
  • To provide professional leadership for the in-reach & ward based occupational therapy services, ensuring that high quality practice is delivered that produces meaningful and demonstrable outcomes, based on best evidence.
  • To contribute to setting quality standards and delivering an evaluation of the ward-based occupational therapy roles.
  • To provide leadership for occupational therapy staff within in-patient areas, and a positive role model around new ways of working and professional relationships.
  • To recognize the value in the full range of professional perspectives, and to be able to integrate these perspectives into own and others practice (this may include psychological & nursing approaches to strengthen the multi-disciplinary ethos within in-patient areas).
  • To work in partnership with nursing leadership, based on the principles of collective & collaborative leadership, to strengthen the multi-disciplinary ethos within in-patient areas
  • To highly provide specialist occupational therapy assessments, advice and interventions using advanced, clinical reasoning skills.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To keep the person receiving services at the Centre of care, using shared decision-making principles.
  • To provide specialist advice to professionals and managers, including in relation to professional governance.
  • To provide leadership to ward based occupational therapy staff to support the development of their generic and specialist skills, in keeping with professional & regulatory standards.
  • To provide support and education to non-registered staff and students.
  • To provide a high standard of occupational therapy within in-patient services.
  • To promote the expansion of occupational therapy roles and perspectives and raise awareness of the relationship between occupation and health, demonstrating value for money and the avoidance / reduction of in-patient care (based on recovery principles) where possible.

Requirements :

  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Relevant post graduate clinical experience in relevant settings.
  • Experience of working with adults with a personality disorder.
  • Experience of occupational therapy assessment and intervention relevant to adults with personality disorders.
  • Experience and commitment to the principles of multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working.
  • Experience of facilitating a range of groups and 1 : 1 intervention to the client group's needs.
  • Experience of managing / dealing with conflict and distressing situations.
  • Experience in providing clinical and operational supervision
  • Knowledge of contemporary Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment, and relevant models (E.g., MOHO).
  • A proficient level of computer and information technology skills.
  • Clear communication skills both written and verbal
